Russia in the 21st Century [Superthread]

The way in which Russian soldiers are treated by their own, I am surprised there is not mass revolt.
Those who put up a stink get immediately put in the front. It is self preservation preventing a mass revolt as no one wants to be the catalyst to start it.

Failed Russian ICBM test. Hopefully it's a systemic problem, not just a one-off.

I find myself deriving smug pleasure reading the events described in this little tweet…

Accidentally on purpose? Where is this launch site?

Kazakhstan - Borat did it!!!

Nice sanctions-dodging ships you have there - shame if anything ever happened to them ....

It was in fact, anti-sanction dodging sanctions.

One should read some accounts of WW2 Soviet soldiers and how they were backed up by a unit of the NKVD to ensure their "loyalty" to the Motherland.

Consider this - Stalin would not trade German PWs for his own son - he considered him weak and a traitor. This is the mentality that goes back to Ivan the Terrible. And Stalin wasn't a Russian - he was a Georgian.

“Russia is not planning to fight European countries, but if Europe starts a war, Russia is ready right now”
… just like that time Russia was not planning to fight Ukraine, but Ukraine started a war by being invaded from Russia.

Apparently a Russian bomber had an "incident" with its ejection system...

Two Russian military airmen were killed in an incident involving the unexpected activation of an ejection system while their aircraft was parked in a shelter, according to Russian defense blogger Ilya Tumanov, the founder of the “Fighterbomber” Telegram channel.

“Yesterday, in one of the bomber aviation regiments, the ejection system was triggered on a plane standing in a shelter,” Tumanov wrote. “The pilot and navigator sustained injuries incompatible with life.”
Ouch...that would definitely leave a mark!
