Russia in the 21st Century [Superthread]

A fairly high ranking general has been shot several times in Moscow and taken to hospital.

Alexeyev is number two in the main directorate of Russia's GRU military intelligence and the latest high-ranking military figure to have been targeted in the capital since the full-scale invasion of Ukraine began almost four years ago.

That would be a majority of what's been built (estimated) since 2019. I wonder if Ukraine had gotten wind of where they were being kept in the west.

Russia's Emigrant Return Program Hits Record Low Amid Demographic Crisis
As reported by Foreign Intelligence Service of Ukraine

Under the state program of voluntary repatriation of emigrants to Russia for permanent residence, last year only 27.6 thousand people relocated, marking yet another record low.

According to the agency’s data, after the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, the number of “real” Russians who decided to return to their homeland has declined annually: 2022 – 64.8 thousand, 2023 – 45.1 thousand, 2024 – 31.7 thousand. And it was precisely through this repatriation program that the aggressor country planned to overcome the demographic crisis.

In total terms, the number of compatriot-emigrants from the countries of the former USSR has sharply fallen: from Tajikistan – tenfold, from Azerbaijan and Moldova – sixfold, from Georgia – fivefold, from Armenia – fourfold, from Kazakhstan – threefold.

I'm surprised they haven't started counting Russians that have been repatriated from Ukraine...in body bags.
