Some things stick in your memory. I recall reading a contemporary newspaper report (late 1960s) of what I think was the last use of whipping as punishment. If I recall correctly, it was for rape; in addition to the prison sentence, he was to receive 20 lashes, half when he entered prison, the other half just before leaving, supposedly to remind him of the seriousness of his offence.
I'm guessing Stony Mountain Institution... the Federal prison north of Winnipeg. I had a friend who worked there for a time, he left as soon as he could reasonably get back into the CAF.
