Null What planet are you on. No veh can take a mine. there are tank mines that can blow through the side of any MBT.
And no our goverment is to **** cheap. I was there when the two Cougars drove over the mines. In somalia.

Recce - Amen! I was there in the 'Som too - and I was up at the Jowz Valley Minestrike Site. You're right, armour is not the end-all, be-all. The mine in the Jowz Valley was planted by a bad guy just before Shorty's patrol went through. Less than 90min prior my Recce Sgt travelled that route in his SUV!!!! Can you imagine? I can't.
I miss Shorty every day, still feel guilty that I was initially happy it hadn't been one of my soldiers... then back to guilt and missing Shorty again! What a life we lead, eh?

Respectfully - a Sapper

This was written for a different war -- but it might serve:

Echoes

Silent are the landing zones
where they fought and fell.
Kneel beside their quiet graves
and recall the long lost past.

Reflections seen in running water,
footprints followed in the snow.
Remnants lodged in memory,
hidden in the mists of time.

Names carved into deep black stone,
anointed with our touch and tears.
Plaintive tone of distant trumpet,
fleeting echoes of our friends.

I salute the Canadian Forces in Afghanistan and honor the memory of two brave soldiers.
