I've got a few American friends wanting to send me care packages overseas. Has anyone here got any experience with having items shipped from the U.S.? Have we any access to their armed forces postal system? I know a lot of companies will ship kit over to AFPO adresses, I just don't know any Canadians who have actually done this here in KAF.

If anyone's got any experience that would be relevant, or any other good advice to offer, I'd appreciate it.

Thanks.

I remember reading an email or letter about this.  I think it was posted on the door of the postal outlet there in KAF.  It stated something to the effect that Canadians were not allowed mail delivery through the American postal service there.

Your US friends should still be able to send to the Belleville address, but it's going to cost them.  Your best bet is to befriend an American in camp and use them for their address.

Just ask the posties in KAF and see what they say/suggest.  There's gotta be a way to do it.

I'm going to echo the last response. As of last Aug, we were told that the US Mail would no longer move parcels bound for Canadian personnel.

On my tour  (2007-2008) I had stuff ordered and delivered to the US APO.  The Canadian Postal clerks would go daily (or so) and check for Canadian Mail delivered there.  I will email my postal buddy who is currently on the ground and ask..

Wait out.

I just got back from Task Force 1-08 in september. It was on that tour that they ceased all mail to canadian personel from the APO. your friends CAN NOT send you mail through the APO. that stopped as of August 1st/08 if I remember correctly. I know it sucked for a lot of guys including me. I ordered a lot of workout supplements through the APO. It was awesome only took 1 week to reach me. The problem was word got around too much, and it was way overly abused. Some guys were buying cheap item X in the states, then mailing it home through the canadian postal system and saving a crap load of money. It was greatly abused, and let us be reminded, the Americans extended us the courtesy of using the APO. I consider myself lucky to have had the luxery for as long as I did. The yanks are good folk.

They did stop it the 1st of Aug I used it a few times to, was great ordered some "items" for my plug and play C7A2 m203 hehe, also supplements were a good deal and fast. But of course I knew it was short lived due to all the people I knew using it was just a matter of time.

Well IF I did hear something from overseas and IF I did happen to cut and paste it (with minor editing to protect the innocent)  then it MIGHT sound like this:

"Yeah, as long as it's from family or friends.....just no business stuff, **edited for OPSEC**.........Cheers."

In reference to this question:

"Does the US APO still allow Canadians to receive parcels there?"

Hope that helps.  It's pretty much the same as the Canada Post deal for us.  Businesses aren't SUPPOSED to be sending parcels to us, just family..
