Signals Reserves - weekend vs. full time training

Hi.

I'm having trouble getting ahold of the Unit recruiter (Communication Reserves). Hoping I can find some Signals people here...

1. Can an officer candidate train full-time (BMOQ, CAP and occupational) instead of part time training on weekends? If yes, how likely would that be?

2. Do you know if there are partnerships with individual companies or laws that protects a reservist's full time job when they are off on military training/deployment (i.e. could you get dismissed from your civ. job if military training/work interfered?)

3. How much control do reservists have over picking out his/her own training schedule if they did part-time training (what about the two week stretches required for the Signals officer course in Kingston?)

4. Is there a time limit within which a reservist must complete all training if training was being done part-time?

5. Would it be possible to train with a full-time unit? (for example, I've read about Sigs Officer posted to Infantry units. How often does this happen if any? Are there spots open to reserve Sig Officer in these types of postings?)

6. On another note, is it at all beneficial to follow up with CFRC recruiters?

Thanks a lot!

I can only help with number 6, and the answer is yes. Definitely. Don't be a stalker, though, just touch base with them from time to time while waiting for word on where your file is at.

If you are going to be contacting your recruiter, they can probably answer qs 1 through 5 for you too.

hey VIChris - thanks for the reply. will do.

CFRC recruiters are hard to get ahold of by phone it seems...the original recruiter hasn't returned a phone message from 3 weeks ago. another sergeant took over in the end as i have no idea where the original guy went. 2 months of waiting since initial contact and finally making some movement.

in the meanwhile, i'll hang out here with you fine folks.

Yes, this sometimes happens in the summer

This is dependent on provincial employment laws and/or company policies. I know for a fact that in Ontario the employment standards act states an employer must grant leave for reservists while on duty or training. I'm not sure about other provinces though.

If you tell your CoC what dates you're available then they should be able to tell you when there are courses available.

As long as you finish your course I dont think theres a time limit for when you have to do your next course.

I don't know, but I'm taking a stab and guessing this is up to the CoC

Yes, but like VIChris said don't go overboard.

Hope I could be of *some* help
