Sikh & India (Alleged) Shenanigans in Canada (split fm Non-Muslim terr thread)

Canada says Sikhs have a right to peaceful protest and there has been no evidence of violence, terrorist activity or wrongdoing.
Well, other than the Canadian Khalistani/Sikh involvement in the Air India bombing in 1984…but other than that…oh, and some attempted murder of an Indian cabinet minister visiting Canada…and BKI/KTF militant training in BC in 2015…and…and…and…

“We will continue to engage privately because we think that diplomatic conversations are best when they remain private,” she [Joly] said.

Trying to imagine if she said that with a straight face….

Trudeau should have taken that advice before he made the public allegations. What was he hoping to achieve?

Pull certain voters away from the NDP and over to the Liberals.

Also hope the CPC over reacts and says mean things.
But hey! Who cares if you drive a stake into international geopolitics, alienate the government of the second largest country on earth, risk Canada being ground into the dirt, and pretty much destroy the alliance landscape in Indo-pacific- as long as you win those ridings in Brampton and Surrey!

Amiright!

Idiots.

What he's done is potentially drive a large portion of the newcommer cohort into the PC camp. From my admittedly amateur perspective, the east indian community has a somewhat higher citizenship uptake than many other groups.

Interesting piece from a Canadian diplomat with experience in India/AsiaPac.

A key point of the article, addressing the difference between looking after a nation’s interest and trying to project its values (virtues, etc.). As some might say, lecturing (whilst virtue signaling).
Values are important, but they should guide how we pursue our interests, rather than define them. Too much focus on values rather than other common interests inevitably marginalizes Canada’s influence in the very relationships where we might want to encourage improvement in human rights or governance. We are taken less seriously because we are seen as primarily interested in broadcasting our judgments rather than engaging with other countries to find common ground.

In soldier language "STFU and get on with the job. You may not like who you work with BUT you have to"

I think it’s more along the line of back-slapping we’re awesome gifts to the world Canadian view, doesn’t go very far in the rest of the world that actually assesses the interaction with other nations, rather than just the irritating preaching to/lecturing of others that Canada has become so very well known for.

not Canada but Trudeau, very much Trudeau

Technically yes, but his legion and star chamber does it to…and so long as the plurality of Canadians support this spectacle of poop, might as well call it Canada… 😔

Back from the end of WWII to sometime in the late 60’s, we were a middle power that punched above our weight militarily and diplomatically and many in the world took us seriously. Since Trudeau Sr. took an axe to the Foreign Service and the CAF, we never recovered. However, we have rested on our laurels and milked our reputation for many decades when we didn’t deserve to ever since. Now we are finding out that the world does not remember our glory days like we do. We are now a wealthy country that moralizes everyone else on the world with no hard or soft power to back it up. Nobody likes a rich scold.
