Sniper hits Marine recruiter's car near San Jose

A sniper shattered windows of the car that a Marine Corps recruiter was driving along a freeway near San Jose on Wednesday afternoon, the California Highway Patrol says. The Marine was not hurt.
Three or four bullets hit the government-issued Pontiac G6 about 12:25 p.m. as the uniformed recruiter headed south on Highway 85 in Cupertino, the San Jose Mercury News reports.
"He hears a pop and a back window blows out," CHP Officer D.J. Sarabia said.
The two rear passenger windows were shattered, said the Santa Clara County Sheriff's Office, which is leading the investigation. No suspect has been identified.
A Marine spokesman in San Francisco told CBS SF the recruiter was traveling alone, but NBC Bay Area cites Sarabia as saying two Marines were in the car.
The southbound lanes were closed until about 3 p.m., causing a massive jam on one of the South Bay's busiest highways.
Authorities said the shooting was not connected to a temporary lockdown at a Cupertino preschool as police hunted for burglary suspects.
