Special Service Medal - Domestic Operations Bar

so, it appears the rule for service badges handed out with service/release certificates have been adjusted to include veterans who don't hold a CD. perhaps this may suffice short of a service medal or home service bar.........

Some quick math against CRA will see a sharp decline in gold or platinum being handed out unless they're prior service honoraries or Canadian Rangers

Gold and Platinum are unchanged. They have always been tied to CD + Bars.

Hmm. I was never given a badge with my release certificate. As a horder this is important to me!

I wouldn't think so, the idea for the Domestic Service Medal is for named domestic missions. All this has done is so disvalue this pin.

How long were you in? If you’re a bronze pin, somehow I ended up with two. I’ll send you one.
Very generous of you, but he should be able to get his own. I waited four and a bit years after my release to get mine and pestered the system to "do things right", which is what @Booter should be able to do.

Excellent and comprehensive work. Well done.
It is a good list but needs to more narrow in its focus as it combines training with actual operations. The qualifying criteria for a domestic operations should be whether or not the operation is a result of an federal Order in Council for military assistance either under the War Measures Act (October Crisis), the Emergency Measures Act or under the National Defense Act. For example, "Operation Nanook" or "Operation New Viking" in the Canadian arctic are important but don't quality as actual domestic operations.

I'm kind of surprised that this hasn't received more traction with recent budget increases and all the focus on recruiting and retention.

Also, as far as the design goes, there has been talk here if using the same medal as the SSM with a different ribbon10232.png

Someone in this forum suggested it at one point.
It really is overdue. It cant be understated how much a soldier will do for a scrap of ribbon and a piece of tin haha. Its such an easy way to recognize the often dangerous work on domops. Hell, my domops experience has certainly been more dangerous than my outcan experience.

It might also be time to spin off the NATO and Expedition bars into their own ribbons on the SSM and allow rotation bars, given we've seen a huge increase in the number of troops being issued those and going on multiple tours with nothing to show after the first go around. It was done in the past for the Peacekeeping and Humanitas bars.

Last year, I wrote to several MPs, only Melissa Lantsmann replied. She stated there is movement to reintroduce the bill to establish a domestic service medal.
