Greetings from a cool evening here in Baghdad.
Just remember Chris, they don't think like us. They're whole mentality and thoughts on life are so far out of our beliefs, thats its uncomprehendable, say to a day walking down Portage and Main. Not only is it the extreme side of this religion, the whole arab and middle eastern culture is by far different than our western menatlity. Even the moderates turn a blind eye to the violence. You gotta live it to see it.
Personally I find the whole way of life primitve, and it took a while to get to know who things work here. I tell ya, to here the smack of the concusion bouncing off the buildings, rumbling through your guts, from the huge car bombs. Or to see the orange wet fireballs, and the thick dark mushroom clouds form, then blow away slowly, then the secondary burn begins from structures on fire, and surrounding vehicles then catching. Thats just the tip of the iceberg, the rockets and mortars, wilth small arms fire, and snipers, thats another story in itself.
They use women and children as shields, and kill innocent people here daily, and I don't mean just a few. At times these bombers can take over 100 people with them, plus causing the most sickening injuries you could imagine.
They twist young impressionable minds around warped beliefs, both young men and women strapping a suicide vest on, or driving a car laden with say 500kg of HME or Arty/ mortar bombs, detonating it either by someone else from a distance or command detonated by themselves.
Not only do they hate the west, but they hate their own people who worship the same god (sunni vs shia). The hate here is deeper than space, and the mentality of killing for revenge is bread inot them from the age of a child.
I can I can say, its pretty sick, and thats why we must keep the fight on his shores rather then ours. Quite frankly Chris, I am at a loss of words over it all, but its a mess, a real mess, adn its only going to get worse, not only her ein Iraq, but in other islamic nations. The En has hardcore supporters even in Canada, and one day you'll here of a significant event closer to home than you think, and it won't be a SVBIED here either.
Don't take your safety for granted Chris. That can all disappear in a 10th of a second, when your life is changed forever.
Regards,
Wes
