Tank maintenance back in the day (From: Canadian troops recieve Leopards in Afghanistan)

Not a great idea in a MBT, the RBJ tends to get swamped, then nothing electric works up in the turret very well.

An overly worn track pad and a sledge hammer cost me 7 days EW&D, plus the value of a 5/4 windshield, before that silly sheet of plywood policy was initiated.

What plywood policy Kat?

They took all the fun out of Leo track pounding by making us hold a piece of plywood in front of the track to block the pads from flying all over the place.

We had a small yard in 4CER, any direction you hammered a pad was going to hit something expensive, but we let em fly.  1CER, huge yard, and stupid "safety policies" everywhere.  Stupid fun police.

Bahhh. George, you call that back in the day? You youngsters don't know tank maintenance. Centurions! That's where you learned tank maintenance. ;)

Harumph. harumph, wet behind the ears....all that sod

Did time on them as well........Road Wheels weighed a ton.  Little ole me required both feet on the clutch.  And carrying on with the "games" trend; there was the Engine Deck/Transmission Door Opening Contests.  ;D

And I did love the Ranging Gun.  Knock! Knock! Knock! Who's that knocking on my door?

Then come over next door. We have troops that can control the sledge and track pad.  >:D We never have issues with injury or damage with our troops for pad changes.

Some brilliant scientist came up with a hand held machine to remove track pads.  Did Trials on it in Gagetown.  It took two to three times as long to change as it did with a pin and sledge.

Oh!  Recceguy.  Remember the Drift Pin and the tracks with the track pins worn out to look like crankshafts?  Now that was fun.

I probably taught some of them,  and pads only flew like that when I wanted them to.  Playing "who can hit the SSMs 5/4" was, in retrospect, a silly idea.  Anyway, my track busting days are long behind me now.
