Teaching kids about money should become mandatory

When I was in high school back in BC (and no that's not the date), there was a mandatory course in Grade 10/11 called Consummer Education.  Kinda sounds like it went by the wayside - or they're teaching something totally different now.

In high school now they have courses in personal finance, so like how to figure out house payments, balance bankbooks, bugeting, I believe it's taught in grade 11, which is a good idea, because cause wither you go into the working world, or post secondary thats when the budgeting is going to come into play.

Keyboarding is pert much "mandatory" nowdays... my son has been required to submit his assignments using a word processor and presentations using powerpoint.  Unfortunately, the school didn't do a very good job of showing him how to do it - so we did it at home.  He's had his own computer for the last 5 years... 1st one of my castoffs & now a laptop - our printer is network ready and the house is wifi - so he can bring his problem to us... instead of having us go to the problem

WRT money and budgets.... 1st off - money does not grow on trees and children have to learn that lesson ASAP. 
Some parents throw money at the problem of not being able to spend time with their kids.
Our son has his list of chores & a weekly allowance.  If he has a large expense coming up then we'll identify additional work that he can do to "earn" what he wants.

At 14 he is well rounded and knows that if he goes to Starbucks for a super duper high end coffee.... he won't make it thru the week.

Unfortunately I dont think it is offered in every school district across Canada, or if it is its not mandatory.
