I have searched all over and cannot find current info so here I go:

I am going on TF 3-09 and am posted to ISAF HQ.  Can anyone tell me what the quarters are like (ie. highspeed internet in room, outlets in rooms, 110VAC, shower facilities, etc)?

Also, what are the current first timer HA rates, HLTA, etc for Kabul?

Thanks in advance for your thoughts....

Didn't you get your FIN briefs along with SISIP, JAG, etc. ?

I have not started pre-dep yet but I want to get started buying stuff now since I live in the west and will be doing pre-dep in the east, so..... I need to shop while I am at home.  I was told about my deployment two days ago and I will be in QC by the end of September.

If you are buying stuff such as chest rigs, holsters that sort of thing my advice is wait till you find out from your chain of command what is authorized.  I would hate to see someone buy stuff based on what previous tours have done and find out there not aloud to use it.

Be safe and buy a converter with adapters. During flying in you can be diverted for a night somewhere else and may require it.

Internet was in trailers/ specified rooms IIRC and there are showers.

You can also eat lunch with bunnies. You will have very comfy accommodations compared to the other troops in the south.

You will find all this out during your pre-deployment briefings...safe to say though you will be at a lower level than in Kandahar.

As for chest rigs...you won't need them at all, just like KAFers.

Google is your friend.  This search took about 45 seconds.

Current HA and RA levels for various missions here.

Military Foreign Service Instructions translating levels into dollars here.

You will also likely be briefed to death during your pre-training.  I would suggest next time searching the net on your own initiative before asking questions here.

The Army.ca Staff

Thanks, I did search the web but was not able to find the current levels.  Then again, that is what I get for doing a DND search and not Google.  Go figure...

In my experience from a DIN machine, I have had 90% more success finding military documents on google.ca then I have had on the DIN search feature (author's note: 90% of all stats are made up on the spot).

Some things to remember when searching google (should apply to the DIN search feature, but the guy who created that is clueless, so...):

1.  Where possible, know the exact wording you are looking for and use quotation marks, this will speed up your search significantly. Example:

2.  The "&" symbol is very handy, as it will bring results which include the listed words to the front, of course, this is much less precise and takes some getting used to;

3.  The "*" symbol is an open ended modifier... If you know part of the word, but not all of the word, this will allow you to enter the part of the word you know (hopefully the front part). This however will likely return tens, to hundreds of thousands of results.

Around these parts though, asking about stuff like the quarters in Kabul is a good thing... Not a lot of information on the net concerning this. I have never been to Kabul myself, only KAF and the FOBs. I have heard stories of gold and marble. Steak dinners for every meal, and happy little cherubs singing heavenly melodies everywhere you go... But then, that could be an exaggeration.

If folks have pictures (unclass of course) of the accomodations and what not, I would greatly appreciate them. If you are uncomfortable sending them here, send them to my DIN account, send me a PM, and I will give you my last name rank for use on the DIN. In exchange, I do have an extensive photo library of KAF, some of the FOBs and a lot of the surrounding areas of Kandahar province itself (at work).

Thanks everyone for your input.  Teeps if you do get any pics, etc please let me know I would love to see them as well.  I can give you my DIN addy, etc as requested.

I too am looking for more detailed info on the ISAF HQ quarters.  I have heard everything from tents to trailers.  I have also heard that they do not have 110V in them and only 220V and they said in some instances there is an Internet drop in the quarters but you have to provide the computer.

It would be nice to rule out the myth with fact. :)

I've already told you about the electrical....get a converter. It's a Euro heavy headquarters.

They have ISOs for quarters and also hard shacks. 2 per room.

You will be fully briefed on the place, along with pictures and the entire layout during your workup training.

As for details on how the place is laid out...that's an OPSEC breech and won't be tolerated on this site.
