In my experience from a DIN machine, I have had 90% more success finding military documents on google.ca then I have had on the DIN search feature (author's note: 90% of all stats are made up on the spot).
Some things to remember when searching google (should apply to the DIN search feature, but the guy who created that is clueless, so...):
1. Where possible, know the exact wording you are looking for and use quotation marks, this will speed up your search significantly. Example:
2. The "&" symbol is very handy, as it will bring results which include the listed words to the front, of course, this is much less precise and takes some getting used to;
3. The "*" symbol is an open ended modifier... If you know part of the word, but not all of the word, this will allow you to enter the part of the word you know (hopefully the front part). This however will likely return tens, to hundreds of thousands of results.
Around these parts though, asking about stuff like the quarters in Kabul is a good thing... Not a lot of information on the net concerning this. I have never been to Kabul myself, only KAF and the FOBs. I have heard stories of gold and marble. Steak dinners for every meal, and happy little cherubs singing heavenly melodies everywhere you go... But then, that could be an exaggeration.
If folks have pictures (unclass of course) of the accomodations and what not, I would greatly appreciate them. If you are uncomfortable sending them here, send them to my DIN account, send me a PM, and I will give you my last name rank for use on the DIN. In exchange, I do have an extensive photo library of KAF, some of the FOBs and a lot of the surrounding areas of Kandahar province itself (at work).
