The Great Gun Control Debate- 2.0

i fail to see what the difficulty will be for the CPC's. They will in all likelihood have in excess of 200 seats. Do it and do it quick and get it over with. To not do so risks fracturing the conservative vote again

The CPC's Bill C-42 in 2014 lifted the ban on the Swiss Arms Classic Green Carbine. So, yes, they have reversed bans in the past.
Just some semantics but that wasn't a 'ban'. There was no OIC or declaration that the Swiss Arms Classic Green or CZ 858s were prohibited by name, rather they were reclassified to accurately follow Canadian law by the firearms lab. The CZ 858s as converted autos and the Swiss Arms as converted autos/550 variants.

Not that I agree with the classifications in the first place, the whole converted auto category is stupid to me, if it's semi-auto it's a semi auto whether or not it was originally one (and interestingly enough that is how the Europeans who generally have tighter controls view it). It is also why the reclassifications happened as they just took actual VZ 58 receivers and welded in the blocks to prevent full auto parts from entering, and the Classic Greens some were Swiss service 550s which were converted to semi-auto only.

The issue is that the legislative process in both houses is not quick and the Liberals (through the Independent and Progressive Senators Groups) still dominate the Senate.

Well unless they dont plan on passing any legislation at all, theyre going to have to suck it up and deal with it.

My point exactly... The CPC has never really done anything to "bring stuff back".

The Swiss Arms Class Green was a complicated and niche situation, and how many Canadians did that even effect? Not many, maybe a couple hundred if that?

As far as owning interesting stuff, the only real advantage of the CPC for gun owners is they won't ban anything additional while they're in power. That's literally about it. They'll let the LPC do the banning and attack them for going after "law abiding gun owners" and then just kind of do nothing about it.

So who should gun owner vote for ?

Don’t start that shit, again.

Gun owners should vote Conservative, this next election, to help destroy the Liberal Party for a generation.

When the Liberals are trying to rebuild, if they are crazy enough to keep the “open voting” system for party leader, someone from the firearms community should run for leadership of the Liberals. If even 10% of firearms owners in Canada vote, we could capture what’s left of the Liberal Party with a single issue leader.

That would be awesome….

There is no Canadian political party in a position to potentially seize power that is likely to "bring stuff back" so with that in mind, vote for whoever you want.

The most likely future of gun ownership in Canada will be very similar to UK, Australia, etc.

The CPC will just delay the inevitable until the Canadian left bans everything except a selection of bolt action dedicated hunting rifles.

Gun laws in Canada generally only go in one direction. CPC has managed to get the vote of gun owners by simply being the party that generally doesn't ban more, but also, doesn't undue already existing bans. Getting gun owners to vote CPC is low hanging fruit, it's easy, they don't need even need to really doing anything by simply being the party that doesn't ban more while in power.

Just look at the history of gun ownership since the Second World War, it's 80+ years of slowly banning and restricting more firearms and never undoing anything significant to bring any of the banned items back.

I personally don't think Pierre is about to change an 80 year trend...

Vote CPC this time and then start another conservative party to ensure they don't get lazy and take your support for granted. Once they get a taste of power they want to hold on to it.
