The Great Gun Control Debate- 2.0

Damned hunters and sport shooters!

They were just good kids on the way to the range I bet.
I've been down in Mississippi for business, I could smell the freedom as soon as I landed. They don't even have licensing! Except for very specific situations like enhanced concealed carry.

Everyone has guns and is real polite!

While I think our whole acquisition and licensing regime in Canada, especially for long-guns is overly and unnecessarily strict, restrictive and overblown I certainly don’t advocate for or want the crazy free-for-all that is the US.

Are you worried teenagers are going to get their hands on micro AK-47s?

Would we or is there situation their own product culturally?
While it seems that have a massive problem in mass shootings and school shootings, how much of that is a product of them just being larger?

It`s unrealistic to compare our one set of national gun laws to their 51+ sets of national and state laws and local ordinances.

Remember in the not so distant past some anti-gun groups here were advocating for exactly that patchwork of gun laws, particularly surrounding handguns. We came very close to having a taste of American style gun laws here, but only the really bad parts.

while there is something to be said for the fact of them being larger being a part of the problem….culture and the easy access to guns, especially handguns but also long guns as well as the myriad of various open, concealed carry laws all contribute to the problems of mass and school shootings to which you refer.

We still have a taste of it with Quebec doing it’s own thing for a registry. It just only effects Quebec.

I daresay that " the myriad of various open and concealed carry laws" have absolutely no bearing on those who commit mass murder with a gun since they have chosen to ignore those and many other laws.

Brother I could smell the freedom just driving through Montana, it was everywhere. The difference is stark.

Guns are inanimate objects. Neither good or bad.

I have a lot of firearms, and none of them have suddenly jumped up and attack anyone.

Guns are really the problem, people are.
Enforcing current laws, and putting money into mental health does a lot more good than more gun laws.

Nowhere in my comments did I advocate for more or stronger gunlaws in the US. In fact I thought I made it clear that I feel that Canadian gunlaws are overly restrictive and onerous…especially where long guns are concerned.

Well when you said crazy free for all down here, one could be a tad offended.

You’re offended, ok, be offended…doesn’t change the fact that nowhere did I advocate for increased gunlaws in the US.
As for it being a crazy free-for-all down there….. In the US how many firefighters were just shot? How many school shootings have there been since January 1st, how many mass shootings? How many times have guns been brandished during some sort of traffic altercation in the past 6 months in the US. It is a free for all down there…..what other civilized, first-world OECD country has the number of law-abiding, adult citizens, excluding law-enforcement, walking around in their daily lives legally armed that the US does? Can it be changed? ….. no, in my opinion it can’t. As for Canada…I think the government has over-stepped and gone too far in the area of gun-control, especially as far as where long-guns are concerned and they should dial-back some of the restrictions and ease some of the processes.
