The Great Gun Control Debate- 2.0

There are tons of reasons the police could show up at your house and coincidentally discover a newly prohibited firearm. Alarm call, welfare check, emergency evacuation, SWATing etc.
You are correct there are many reasons the Cops can come to my door.

Couple good videos:

I've heard of many people (on this site, friends and acquaintances, posts on SM) who own now-restricted firearms that are planning on saying nothing and locking their guns up somewhere deep in their basement and not touching it unless they need it for the zombie apocalypse.

Imagine if they received an email directly to them (ie naming them by name, and not just a wide email blast to gun owners) that says basically "we know you have a restricted firearm, turn it in before October 30th or else face legal consequences". I wonder, amongst these people, how many would fess-up and turn their guns in and how many would continue to play quiet and hope it blows over.

For me it will be interesting when the CPC again takes Gov, that will happen, and if they reverse all this what comes creeping out of the shadows.

If the Gov knows what I have, why do they need me to register anything with them ?

I expect QC residents might receive such a personalized correspondence from the SQ in due course.

I suspect the next time the CPC forms government, will be after the deadline, and they won't bother with trying to reverse the prohibitions. Maybe handguns, if they haven't been confiscated by then...

While there are a lot of firearms owners in Canada, there aren't enough in the right ridings to make firearms a topic worth risking too many votes over.

If people don't turn in AR15s that are registered to them I see the CFRO simply canceling their firearm liscence.

Oui, c'est possible

Lumber can correct me, but I think he’s talking about the previously non-restricted, unregistered, now prohibited firearms like M14, M1, Mini-14, etc.

Anyone holding onto a former NR prohib after 30 Oct is playing a dangerous game with pretty much zero pay-off.
Depends, I know tons of people who never signed up to the long gun registry (or only signed up a few of their firearms) and ultimately won with that. Largest case of civil disobedience in Canadian history and I suspect this will join it.

Oh so basically 2 collectors

The email is in my spam filter, your honour.

I'm pretty sure the registry had lower punishments for non-compliance than posession of a prohibited device does.

Also, I suspect the government will be looking to make examples of people.

People are free to make their own choices, but people should be making the decision with a realistic understanding of the consequences if they get caught. Likey tens of thousands of dollars in legal fees, loss of emoyoyment, potential jail time, and a social stigma for being a convicted criminal.

Yes I was mostly referring to unregistered, non-restricted but now prohibited.

I suppose if you currently own previously restricted now prohibited weapons (i.e. AR-15), AND you own previous non-restricted now prohibited weapons (i.e. M14), you might definitely be one of those target for a "visit" to confirm you aren't hiding anything...

Also, just had an extremely devious idea: since the government doesn't know (other than in maybe QC) if you own any non-restricted now prohibited weapons, they can't really send you a direct email/letter as I previously opined. But, what if they send one to you anyways? As a scare tactic. You get the letter and think, "Oh shit! DO they know about the AR-10 I have stashed away in the crawl space? Oh fuck oh fuck!!" It's all bullshit and fishing, but it may get a few more people to turn in their weapons.

Also, how the hell is the M14 prohibited but the M1 non-restricted? Oh wait, never mind...

On 30 October, I'll be actioning my responsibilities to ensure I maintain compliance, and following Section 107 of the firearms act.

I thought they did ban the M1? My bad.
