It's an attempt to try an get you to engage in the actual premise rather than getting lost in the us vs them rage.

I'll boil it down- is there any off ramp, any compromise, that you would find palatable other than a full rollback to 2019?

How about a rollback to pre-Bill C68 along with a public acknowledgement that legal firearms owners are NOT a significant source of firearms related crime? Follow this with a non-partisan study of pre-Bill C68 regulations in the light of present day situational factors and then re-draft the Firearms Act as a result of that study so it actually impacts criminals more than lawful owners?

Regarding off-ramps, I fully expect the bans to be expanded, not reduced, in the coming months to ensure support remains high in QC and among voters in large urban centres in the rest of Canada. Any attempt to build an off-ramp would, in my opinion, cause a caucus revolt by Liberal party QC MPs led by none other than our PS minister-in-waiting.

As I recall the last LPC caucus revolt on this file was in the the other direction when the anti-'s pushed farther than popular opinion would take with Chiang amendment. Seems like public sentiment is building that way on the confiscation. My read is that there's a public opinion split on "concept" of the listed firearms being banned (majority indifference), vice immediate human impact of the confiscation and ban (growing proportional showing frustration at the injustice and waste). Tough road to hoe for a PM that would rather focus on the global picture and economy.

First off I want my laws to be logic based and not emotion based. Set the criteria for each category for physical clearly defined characteristics and go from there.

Pre-2019 were not that but they were much closer than the greatly expanded OIC nonsense we have now. You shouldn’t be able to declare specific firearms illegal ‘just because’.

Last time they did a non-partisan study (Harper era) the recommendations included making some prohibited classes restricted and some clear cut regulatory changes. Harper basically rejected them for political reasons but the recommendations made technical sense.
