The government isn’t sending everyday cops or retired cops to a house for an arsenal. The risk assessments on those are too high now and it’s not a light search- it’s also not getting safer to do them, the simple cost of going to houses to take firearms will make it an untenable course of action,

And the cost of the bad incident that goes sideways because it wasn’t done properly is even higher. Any small town force thinking federal dollars are worth that hassle are very out of touch with reality presently

I don’t know about where you live, but out here there are far more well armed crazy people than there will ever be police.

The coercion will be found elsewhere. No income tax refund. No CPP or OAS. Debanked. RRSP frozen. No passports. No insurance of any kind. No federal healthcare, daycare. No VAC claim.

I still think it would be really easy for the CFRO to simply pull anyone's firearms licence if they have registered/prohibited firearms on file (e.g AR15s) and don't turn them in after October.

If that interferes with hunting tags and licenses in a high inflation environment then yes a firearm or two might be turned in.

Ok well. I know of several government funded university managed programs that used interns and co-ops that involved scraping pretty much every website, channel, internet posting and social media posting of a firearms reputed to be owned by Canadian citizens. Images, text , locations, usernames, accounts, and meta data captured, catalogued, indexed and cross referenced.

• Firearms dealers using Gmail accounts that were in data leaks? Check.
• Facebook groups, chat groups, leaked commercial transaction data. Check.

Hundreds of millions of pieces of data all collected, sorted, and already provided to activist groups to start reporting, doxxing, publicly naming and shaming firearms owners.
All paid for with your tax dollars.

Its bad enough we can't sell our pistols or hand them down legally. Losing a restricted license because of an AR means all your pistols are kaput.

I’m not sure what you’re saying to me. I agree they’ll find their pressure point elsewhere. It won’t be a policing action.

Going after legal illegal gun owners in an election year seems like too big of a opportunity to miss.

It took Liberals 6 years to get to this point. I'm betting they find a reason to slow roll enforcement for a couple years.

No. Like domestic violence and then it coming out there is also an illegal possession. Which isn’t unusual now for illegal firearms.

There may also be a warrant where someone believes that there are numerous firearms etc or the potential they are being trafficked. But those will be in the vacuum and shadow of something larger. That may not stop certain backwards provinces from making an example early. But it won’t be a practice.

There isn’t the capacity for what you’re suggesting.

This is all hypothetical to me though- I got rid of all my firearms years ago. I don’t even have a licence anymore. I just follow for my family. It’s certainly a bizarre situation.

I’m agreeing with you. Police will not go out of their way to enforce these laws when there are safer alternatives that could be used to make life miserable for non-compliant individuals until such time as they comply.

To my first point, it would be near suicidal for the police to attempt to forcibly disarm 10’s of thousands of people out here who have done nothing to attract the attention of the police other than own a listed firearm. It will quickly go bad, and there will be state caused violence and much sadness, all for politics. But they still won’t give them up. They just won’t … and they sure don’t give a frig what the eastern governments think about that.

I believe the prairies are developing their own process around requirements. I’m hopeful that they’ll create their own top cover, and by controlling their firearms officer programs and direction to crowns, they can make “havens” so at least provincially a person will be alright.

I think this will be the way forward. Provinces like BC and QC will have their own enforcement programs and everyone else can do whatever they want. Living in Northern Ontario, I can tell you that no police force is coming for people's guns, they don't have the capacity up here to do so and it would just be opening up a can of worms they don't want to go down.
