IRUNGUNS can both import and export. They do all the paperwork. Some caveats apply re: Chinese and Russian firearms, etc.

Unfortunately this looks like it shall be like the giant protest on capital hill in the 90s (over 10k attendees), largely ignored by the media because it doesn’t fit their narrative.

Well, the Toronto (Red) Star's headline read: "Our weapons are not for sale", playing nicely into the LPC narrative that legal gun owners and their sporting equipment are dangerous.

The papers are going to sensationalize whatever they can. Legally they aren’t wrong, every firearm is legally a weapon, and every firearm is dangerous, that is what gives it value.
The fact that your average firearms owner is less dangerous than your average citizen is lost on the general public though.
They all play games with verbiage.
Look at the program name ‘assault style firearms compensation program’. Most of the firearms in the program are semi-autos. There is also plenty of single shot rifles in said program. But ‘assault style’ is undefined and scary sounding which sells well to a ignorant public.
A AR-15 is a assault style weapon in civilian hands, yet a patrol carbine in police hands.
It is all about who is pushing the narrative which is why using accurate terminology matters.

I'd bet 90-10 on the former, but it's all in the eye of the beholder.As I said previously, I was surprised to see this in Quebec, but as the only province saying, "yeah, we'll help," it makes more sense to me now. Also, I'm still surprised at the scale of turnout, given the (HUGELY broad strokes) perception that QC is more "European" in its sensibilities about such issues than much of the rest of English Canada.

Selectively, if you ask me. They have a ton of big shiny heads there to pruf reid stuff, but they have to push the red narrative and do damage to the cause of lawful gun owners. I'd love to know why they really changed it.

The Québec municipalities of Gatineau and Valleyfield will not support the program. However, that mean little in the big scheme of things as the SQ and SPVM, the two largest police services in the province, are still 100% onboard.
While gun owners take this as positive news, they are losing sight of the fact that as of October 31st, 2026, those who did not participate in any of the program's options will be criminals. Those police services, provinces and communities who are not participating are helping to establish a new class of criminal. Eventually, those who failed to participate will face enforcement action. It may not happen right away, but this LPC government will be in power for another 3 to 7 years.
