The Great Gun Control Debate- 2.0

The current MND is the former PS Minister and the co-architect of all this stupidity. The same lack of access to the portal would also likely impact other federal employees OUTCAN such as GAC, CBSA, DFAIT and snowbirds as well.
You forgot CIDA, Haggis. 😉

Can't wait for the LPC press release about a small number of fringe activist protesting against the gun grab and showing complete disdain for the government's attempts to ensure public safety in Québec City today.

Tried to find it on CBC news, not a sign of it.

Unfortunately this looks like it shall be like the giant protest on capital hill in the 90s (over 10k attendees), largely ignored by the media because it doesn’t fit their narrative.

Well, the Toronto (Red) Star's headline read: "Our weapons are not for sale", playing nicely into the LPC narrative that legal gun owners and their sporting equipment are dangerous.

The papers are going to sensationalize whatever they can. Legally they aren’t wrong, every firearm is legally a weapon, and every firearm is dangerous, that is what gives it value.

The fact that your average firearms owner is less dangerous than your average citizen is lost on the general public though.
Their verbiage has been noted:
They all play games with verbiage.

Look at the program name ‘assault style firearms compensation program’. Most of the firearms in the program are semi-autos. There is also plenty of single shot rifles in said program. But ‘assault style’ is undefined and scary sounding which sells well to a ignorant public.

A AR-15 is a assault style weapon in civilian hands, yet a patrol carbine in police hands.

It is all about who is pushing the narrative which is why using accurate terminology matters.

That headline looks like it was a direct quote from one of the protesters. If that’s the case, they are the one that gave the Star the headline.

You're just not looking back far enough - try 2016 :) Haven't seen CBC English coverage of the weekend action, either. Franco service had this (with no crowd numbers) ...
... while The Canadian Press talked about a "several thousand" of protesters here ...
... appearing to take a fair bit from from the story generated by the French side of their service:
Based on CP's coverage & distribution, either 1) CBC doesn't have a massive English-language contingent in Quebec City, especially on the weekends (although they could have done a CP and done an English version), or 2) CBC English's borg said the anti-gun-control protest didn't meet the narrative control paramaters set up by "Those Guys," so no coverage for them :) I'd bet 90-10 on the former, but it's all in the eye of the beholder.

As I said previously, I was surprised to see this in Quebec, but as the only province saying, "yeah, we'll help," it makes more sense to me now. Also, I'm still surprised at the scale of turnout, given the (HUGELY broad strokes) perception that QC is more "European" in its sensibilities about such issues than much of the rest of English Canada.

The Toronto Star and others have amended their headlines blaming their use of the word "weapons" on "poor translation".

Yeah, looking at the French articles above, I can see “armes” being translated as “guns” or “weapons”…

Selectively, if you ask me. They have a ton of big shiny heads there to pruf reid stuff, but they have to push the red narrative and do damage to the cause of lawful gun owners. I'd love to know why they really changed it.

This was all political spin and bias on there part. I'm just surprised to see them back peddling.

The Québec municipalities of Gatineau and Valleyfield will not support the program. However, that mean little in the big scheme of things as the SQ and SPVM, the two largest police services in the province, are still 100% onboard.

While gun owners take this as positive news, they are losing sight of the fact that as of October 31st, 2026, those who did not participate in any of the program's options will be criminals. Those police services, provinces and communities who are not participating are helping to establish a new class of criminal. Eventually, those who failed to participate will face enforcement action. It may not happen right away, but this LPC government will be in power for another 3 to 7 years.
