One of the firearms in his possession had the serial number tampered with, that doesn't mean he was the one who tampered with it.
As for trafficking, that could be a matter of him buying illegal firearms and the police using the number if firearms present to justify trafficking charges - when we all know 400+ guns isn't abnormal for a true collector.
