The charges include trafficing and tampering with serial numbers. Very serious charges that dont get tossed at soneone without evidence. Most people also dont keep 300k cash under their pillow
Also when rechambered post war, guns often had their marks ground off and new set punched in. There is no central registry of serial numbers, so you may have two manufacturers using the same serial number.
