The RCAF's Next Generation Fighter (CF-188 Replacement)

Just wondering that when Canada starts receiving are new submarines, will they also need a special defence, similar to what the RCAF wants? Will there be the one trade and you get posted between RCAF and RCN bases? Or two separate trades?
Great question

Maybe it could be like Int Op or Int O, segregated by element but one occupation.

The submarines will not need specialized security beyond the one currently existing for fleet units. However, once the RCD's arrive and Hartlen Point starts to operate with their AEGIS systems, some special security will be required for them.

Just out of curiosity, how close could some nob taking a boats from Alderney Marina get to one of the CPF tied up at Jetty NB or NF? What’s in place to prevent them in bringing their small craft right along side?

There was nothing between me and the ships on this fine morning when I had my 18ft Jet Boat out in the Harbour with a buddy of mine....we got some great photos.

I have paddled a similar route to this group in Esquimalt Harbour a couple of times. No one seemed too bothered when we came (fairly) close to RCN shipping.

Is that not a fairly significant concern?
Will someone be able to get that close to our new subs once we get them?

Would this be similar to other NATO countries navies? The US, UK, Germany, Italy?

The new destroyers will need heightened security, and even CAF bases without fighters and destroyers should be doing more than happens now. There should be a CAF security force of personnel who are peace officers but not police officers for every major base.

Commissionaires not good enough?

Not peace officers, not armed, not deployable.

It would be like replacing the PPCLI with Cub scouts.
But they do have a medal.

NavyShooter, who’s the visitor?

Yes. We also have pedestrian usable bridge that goes over the North side of dockyard.
It reminds me of when I worked in Ottawa as a Uni student during the summer of 1990. I worked in the old Gov't Conf Centre across from Chateau Laurier and I'd regularly walk over to the Hill to visit a few friends who worked for some MP's in Centre Block. Back then you could just walk right in the front door of the Hill and either keep on going or if asked by the, at that time unarmed, security, where I was going, merely respond back, 'I'm going to see 'so and so' in office ABC and then keep going. I got to know all the stair wells quite well and more often than not walked into some areas that I definitely should have not been allowed to be in. I just did my best to look like I belonged there and just kept walking at a brisk pace, eyes forward and never back.

I went to Lisgar back in the day....I was able to walk from school, through the main floor at NDHQ to the Rideau Center to catch a bus.
