The RCAF's Next Generation Fighter (CF-188 Replacement)

The new trade is predicated on expansion of the CAF, not reallocation from within existing numbers.
I would support this totally. I am always pro expansion (effectively) of the CAF, and I would grumble less about higher taxes if it meant an CAF of 150,000-200,000
I'm actually a Gripen fanboy, I really like it, and I'm impressed that a country as small as Sweden has been able to maintain a robust defence industrial capability in many ways that comparatively we haven't been able to.
Sweden is very impressive with their military technology. The JAS39 series is very good aircraft, and has a specific niche role within the context of Hit/run/hide Swedish military defence policy. They make a lot of good stuff. CB90, Carl Gs, RBS15, etc.
I also think the F-35 is far and away the best path forward, in as large a number as we can get, supported by future purchases of CCA systems.
Yup. I have been following the CCA concept and much of the technology on this (check out Sandboxx on Youtube). Its mind blowing the pace of technology and where future warfare is heading. The raid in Venezuela should be an eye opener to what is coming.

Locally produced Gripens could help build public support for that kind of program and between that and F-35 parts manufacturing help build our industrial base to build these future systems.

Locally produced Gripen would still be US ITAR-controlled.

Orders of magnitude smaller, though.

The James M. Flaherty building is not 100+ times smaller than Carling Campus.

Carling Campus is just three (3) times larger than TB’s building…207,000m2 vs 70,000m2

To add a bit of whataboutistic flair, Place du Portage in Gatineau at 430,000m2 is more than twice the size of Carling Campus, making TBS’ building still less than a single order of magnitude than Canada’s largest sprawling public servant facility.

The perspective remains valid the proportionately, TBS has one of the largest, lushest buildings for its employees in the entire federal government.

Personally I distrust mainstream media and especially the CBC.
Please remember the 12k is Saab's number they are publicly saying. Blaming the messages for corporate messaging doesnt make sense in this case.

Saab also said they would be shifting R&D to canada as well. Who knows how many jobs that might create.
