The RCAF's Next Generation Fighter (CF-188 Replacement)

They also:
  • Committed to the F-35
  • Purchased Leopard 2 tanks
  • Purchased G-Wagons
  • Purchased M777 howitzers
  • Purchased Chinook helicopters
  • Purchased C-17s
  • Purchased C-130Js
  • Launched the National Shipbuilding Strategy
The LPC, meanwhile, spent years wavering on the fighter replacement and ultimately bought us some used aircraft from Australia. Super cool.

Oh, and they made a lot of announcements.

I understand we all have our own biases, and we all enjoy a bit of whataboutism from time to time. I just thought I'd join in the fun.

All of which I agree have benefited the CAF, however, none of them support an assertion by some that only the Liberals have cut CAF capability. Anyone who supports that position (only Liberals cut CAF) is beyond ‘biased.’

One additional point in you list…F-35.

By ‘committed’ do you mean ‘signed just one of the three JSF MOUs signed by the GoC and then who kicked the actual procurement decision down the road to the Liberals’ type of commitment?

Don’t get me wrong, I don’t mind a good Liberal slagging, especially to the Orangey-Red variant, but I will not shy from pointing out that the Conservatives aren’t angels pure as the driven snow…

I'm just playing our game of whataboutism. It's circular, but fun.

F-35 commitment:

I mean, remember when the Conservatives pledged to buy 65 F-35s?

It's kind of like arguing with my friends who are Red Sox fans. People tend to cherry-pick history, highlighting only the parts that support their argument.

Not me. I'm a Yankees fan. I look at the all-time records.

I hear you, loud and clear.

I feel that if Mulroney was able to follow through on the nuc subs back in 1988 things would be different now. An entire new industry related to the maintaining and expanding that capability would have been established and all the thousands of jobs related to it. It would have been a fundamental shift in our approach to defence and our mentality.

Hindsight.......and rose coloured glasses.
Agreed. And to think we would’ve have built nucs in Canada. 🇨🇦 We would’ve been leading CAUKUS not watching from the sidelines. Since then most of our industrial capacity has declined.
But it would have died anyway because the following year, Canada had a recession and the defense budget was reduced.

The Conservatives never committed through the JSF MOU to acquire any F35s. Zero. Nada. Rien.

The NSS started under Harper but the bulk of the money didn’t start until PM Sox. It pains me to say this but Sox is the 1st PM since PET to consistently raise Defense budgets.
