For Maclimius, I've seen in a couple of threads that you are conducting recce ops with the MILCOTS Silverado, I also know that several other reserve Regts are doing the same. The truck is not an interm vehicle, it is a Adm veh. I realize that so far all that has been issued is the pickup but understand that it wasn't purchased to conduct reconnaissance tasks, it was purchased to use in the administration role, i.e. carrying supplies etc. All recce units will eventually recieve the LUVW Mercedes Benz C&R for conducting Reconnaissance tasks, how many is anybody's guess. The problems you are having will hopefully be only short term.

I was well aware that the MILCOTS was designed to be specifically an Admin vehicle, but when you have nothing else to work with, you use what you have. As it is right now, we're conducting recce courses with a combination of Iltis' including old MP variants, MILCOTS, and LSVW or MLVW when the Iltis' break down. I won't hold my breath on seeing the LUVW before at least 2006 in the reserve units, especially not out west. What I meant by the MILCOTS being an interim vehicle was that it's all we have to use in the interim before getting the LUVWs. I know they're coming, it's just a matter of whether or not we're used to using the MILCOTS in the recce role and making mistakes with it before the LUVW shows up. As I've said in the past, it doesn't matter what vehicle we use, the fundamentals are the same. GW also mentioned that even though the vehicle doesn't matter for the fundamentals, it's that habits that we learn with the vehicles that can cause major mistakes when we use what we're supposed to.
