The system is worrying, RMC

On behalf of my son... he has submitted his application to RMC back in the beginning of Sept., being a Reservist since the age of 16 he was told that prior to his CFAT and interview he must go through a component transfer, my understanding is this is a new procedure he hasn't been excepted yet and they want to do a component transfer, it doesn't make sense. We have been waiting for a Lt. in DCMA to look at his file and clear it ,his response was "I've come to the files for Aug. and I will get to yours on my own time", the Sgt. (Recruiting Counselor, Ottawa) has been very good and she has been disciplined already for pushing this Lt.. My son has already missed the early board cut off, now his back is against the wall for getting in being fewer positions available now. He has been deemed as a good candidate from RMC . Should we worry that his prospects of getting in are now  more difficult? Suggestions would be appreciated , also has anyone else experienced this absolute mess.

Red Hackle, your son's file has been registered and will be processed by the staff at Director Military Careers Administration.  It is their responsibility to ensure that the Reserve member files are ready for the selection board and get a fair chance at the openings for ROTP and within that RMC Canada and RMC St Jean (or a civilian university).  This is the first year for this change so CFRG and DMCA are working through the transition as everyone (applicants included) get used to the new system.  If he is competitive for selection for ROTP, then he continues to have a good chance.  If your son has questions, I believe that the CT site on the DIN has a contact procedure and he should use it to get an update on his file from the DMCA staff rather than through the recruiters - CT is no longer a recruiting function so CFRG/CFRCs are not the right agencies to be asking.

This is for the recruiting guys on here. The CFRC called me and said my ROTP file is "favorable." Now I passed my CFAT and initial medical/interview for pilot. I am just waiting  on my ACS date.

I recently called to check up on the date and if Ottawa has sent back my medicals. I was transferred over to the RMC coordinator form my branch and she informed me that RMC sent her a email saying i am favorable (i applied in mid Oct)


Now there is the run down, here is my concerns.

Assuming I pass my Air Crew Selection. Do I stand a good chance of getting into the RMC and receiving an offer?

No one can tell you if you have a good chance. It all depends on everyone else. I was told I was a good candidate, but if there are (insert number of applicants ROTP is looking for) MORE favorable then me then I do not get in. You just have to wait, which I sadly have come to terms with. hehe

If there are any aviation guys with experience, would it be a wise choice to choose the C.A.M.P program at western and by-pass the PFT under ROTP or go RMC and wait around to start flying.

Eh that just goes in one ear and out the other to me haha. But do go ahead and apply for some CivvieU's, the recruiter told me it will increase your chances significantly to get into ROTP. (of course). I'm just waiting on some references to be sent to a couple CivvieU's myself.

Allright, that'st just my personnal opinion.  Personally, I'd rather do PFT.  Civilian and military flying are quite different.  Even though PFT is still a selection course and taught by civilian instructors (some are ex-military with LOTS of experience), it still introduces you to how things are done in the military pilot training system and what they expect from you.

Personally, I had previous flying experience before getting to Moose Jaw.  Did I find it helped me?  Possibly.  However, it depends how you take your experience.  Some other people had thousands of hours and failed or almost failed the course (Basic Flying Training).  Because you have X amount of civilian hours doesn't mean anything and certainly doesn't mean you know how to fly the military way.  Even with all that experience, you have to go there with an open mind, be ready to learn new things and re-learn things you already knew before in a somewhat different way.  Easy to say, but some people with experience go there thinking that they don't need to re-learn anything and assume everything is the same as before.

Thank you for the honest reply. I have some flying experience. Not much but enough to understand the basics and fly on my own. I have a quick learning curve and pick up new concepts quick.

I am just trying to figure out if i should go civi uni or RMC. This is just what i heard, but the instructors in the CAMP program train ROTP students differently will obtaining the PPL, CML etc.
