The vibe shift, end of "wokeness"?

I read about this earlier today...

On one hand it's good that the stigma around mental health is starting to break down, but I fear the schools are setting these kids up for failure in the real world. There is also the possibility that people abusing leniency with mental health issues are going to re-establish the stigma...
If the pendulum does indeed start swinging the other way, the real losers could be those who actually have a clinically recognized disability. 'Life is hard' isn't one of them.

I, for one, do not look forward to a return of a world where 'retarded' is acceptable. I doubt it has been used as anything other than a slur in half a century.

too true, but it would be good to see the assisted living centres re-open the specialist schools so as to provide a better education path. The current process, at least here in Ontario, of integration doesn't help anyone.

I for one would not be condoning something along those lines.

Fully agreed. My older son has a disability and we pulled him from school after he finished grade 8 as he was by then, being shoved through and not learning a f-ing thing. As we homeschool him, giving him lots of hands on, he has gained many valuable experiences. Some of high school would have been useful but many subjects such as history, geography, french, etc he wouldn't see the purpose of and would not participate in.

Many years ago, they had vocational schools (and yes, there were many labels attached to kids who went there in my area), however I have seen some graduates of vocational schools go on and have very lucrative jobs as tradesmen.

The thing is we all knew pre-woke era that racist, prejudicial and bigoted slurs were socially wrong. It didn't take the woke movement for lack of a better term, to tell us that. If we follow our moral compasses, we all know what to do.

Like say trying to get out of a drill tasking by getting a chit for anxiety and not thinking that through as he had his air crew selection cancelled shortly after. Can’t have pilots with anxiety can we now.

Right.

Bomber Command was enraged when stories emerged of doctors who for five pounds would brief an airman on the symptoms necessary to get him taken off operations: insomnia, waking up screaming, bed-wetting, headaches, nightmares.

100% true about vocational schools adding solid value to society, a great path of individuals to move onto community colleges and the trade programmes that used to exist or still do today.
My brother is dyslexic and 'traditional' school was lost on him. In high school he focused on the 'trades' side of things then went on to Community College and got a degree in 'Tool and Die', apprenticed at a company and then orally took his exams to be certified. Now, unfortunately that same programme no longer exists at the College and companies are now forced to take on 18/19yr old's straight from high school and train them in house. Its not a successful model today.

I had

Had more than one troop torpedo potential career opportunities by playing the mental health card inappropriately.

I like the ones who are too fragile to anything, until something jammy or money making comes along.
