The War in Ukraine

An interesting podcast from Westpoint's Modern War Institute on the likely impacts of Ukrainian F-16's on the conflict:

Key take-away is that the main role will likely be defensive counter-air against incoming missile attacks (with possible ambushes against complacent Russian aircraft when opportunities arise) at least for the next couple of years. The interviewee doesn't expect to see any significant offensive role for them anytime soon.

In unfortunate related news unfortunately one of the F-16's has already crashed and its pilot lost:

Canadian columnist: yeah, I helped UKR's FBI do counterintelligence work ....
I am not sure this is a wise flex for any journalist to make…

The grey area, though, is that if he's a "columnist", he can slide out of the "journalist" pigeonhole. That said, most people seeing a byline in a paper/outlet often don't see that nuance.

Right, then - OFF you go!

No one told the Ukrainians about how to establish MEZs and FEZs?

I'm not an IMINT analyst but the "after footage" looks like it's from a different strike. There's a wierd looking tree on the right side by a blue road sign pre strike, and looks like a different sign with the wierd tree not there in the after.
