The War in Ukraine

Well, anyone want to guess if we are the 6th unnamed 'European' country?

Only six European countries are currently willing to send troops to Ukraine

Among the countries named are the United Kingdom, France, and the Baltic states — Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania. AFP did not identify the sixth country.

I wonder if its not us if its Poland?

Poland, or Finland is my guess.

I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that Poland wouldn't be sending troops to Ukraine as they need to focus on their own border defence. Wouldn't surprise me if Finland was in the same boat.

I would be happiest if Finland and Poland just stayed put with their own well developed internal deployment plan. Finland has a plan for its Russian border and on its northern flank (The Kola) gets assistance from the Swedes, Norwegians and Royal Marines. Poland, with its heavy emphasis on armoured manoeuvre forces is well positioned to back stop the Baltics and to cover the Suwalki Gap.

Now if only the Poles could rely on the Germans to secure their rear by taking over Kaliningrad.

The Poles and Germans can use Russia's arguments in Ukraine to "protect" their people there and restore Imperial Poland/Germany

So the Germans play the role the Soviets played in mid September, 1939? Taking the Poles from behind , while the Russians get their chance at a frontal assault? Nice of them to change positions this time. Variety is the spice of life!

The Soviets ethnically cleansed Königsberg so they wouldn’t have to worry about that casus belli. Germans were also purged as a collective punishment act for the war.

Russia wants Ukraine to capitulate now so it can hide the current ethnic cleansing inside gulags and though forces relocations. But, in absence of that capitulation, Russia will do what it get away with in public view.

German paper BILD is reporting the US government has said no to a ukrainian proposal to buy 50 billion in arms from US companies, including 15 billion in Patriot batteries and missiles.

Parades are fun, unless you're forced to be there of course...

Ukraine parades Chinese nationals captured fighting for Russia. What message was it was trying to send?

Putting prisoners of war in front of reporters and news cameras is almost certainly a violation of international humanitarian law.

But Ukraine clearly felt any reputational damage it might suffer by doing so in a news conference this week would be outweighed by the fact that it featured two alleged captured fighters from China.

There was more value in giving them a platform to speak, the argument presumably ran, than protecting them “against insult and public curiosity” – something the International Committee of the Red Cross says includes protection from the media.

May might be bringing a little more than flowers with the new incoming Chancellor for Germany.
