The War in Ukraine

@Humphrey Bogart while I’m not a train guy , this doesn’t seem to bode well for the Russians.
Well known Pro-Ukrainian account

These #s don't actually sound that terrible though:

Staff turnover of 12% or as high as 35%? Those are amateur #s. Something like 60% of our new hires don't last two years.

Generally what I have found, we attrite around 60% of employees before 2 years of service. If the employee stays longer than 2 years, they become a long term employee and will probably make a career out of it.

Just sounds like the Russians have caught on to what we call "Precision Scheduled Railroading" here in North America.

Is that when you have only a few feet between trains? ;)

Europe proposes cease fire and talks with Europe and Ukraine, Russia rejects that in favour of talks with Ukraine only. Trump takes Russia’s side.

Russian forces were on the verge of collapse. Then Trump took their foot off Putin’s neck.

Also, Witkoff meets alone with Putin and a Russian (FSB) interpreter. Who knows what was actually said.

One of the reasons I refuse to get excited about reports that Trump might be pivoting back to supporting Europe and Ukraine is that they are based often on ephemera. The occasional Trump tweet (always heavily qualified) or even worse the statements of pro-Ukraine Republicans who do not actually speak for Trump.

In reality, what we have is that Trump has established an intimate and regular conduit of discussions with Putin, and moreover is keeping those discussions as confidential as possible by making sure that even other US government actors know nothing about them. In other words, in public he might act like a friend of Europe’s, but in private he is communicating his wishes to be a friend of Putin in a way that gives Putin both a great deal of assurance and a major strategic advantage.

The key figure in this Trump-Putin dialogue is Steve Witkoff, who is Trump’s (and Putin’s) hand picked emissary. I’m sure you know who he is, a NY real estate developer who has a long-term relationship with Trump. What is interesting is that Putin quickly decided that he wanted to deal only with Witkoff and not with any other US emissary and basically ordered Trump to no longer involve Keith Kellogg in negotiations. You might also remember Witkoff from the moment when he put his hand on his heart in a sign of devotion as he was meeting with Putin.
