The War in Ukraine

If we can't keep the politics part (peace deal, etc) in the politics thread, we'll lock this up.

Update on what the tank situation might be looking like in Russia, specifically the oldest T-72 variants.

Uh oh. New Russian drones units taking first place in the battle. Of note:

“Within a week, he said, his unit had lost most of its vehicles, drone launch sites, antennas, and communications equipment. From the beginning of the war, the Russians have tried to target Ukrainian drone operators. Rubicon units have taken that to a new level.

The conflict is now “a saturated drone operating environment,” according to military analyst Mick Ryan, who was recently in Ukraine.

Ryan said frontline officers had told him that Russian innovation in drones probably now just outstrips that of Ukraine.

“Within 15 kilometers (9 miles) of the front line, vehicle movement is difficult to impossible. Infantry soldiers must march to their positions for 10-15 kilometers (6-9 miles),” Ryan said

and in a surprise to no one, the latest push for a peace deal has been rejected by Russia, when will the Trump admin though follow through with its promise to arm ukraine to the teeth?

Apparently the EU purchasing weapons for Ukraine also has an imaginary limit now, but this new position will likely change again shortly because that's just leaving good money on the table. The Trump admin is a pretty awful salesperson for the American defense industry.

I do not understand the reluctance for the EU to "arm Ukraine to the teeth"? The Russian problem is certainly more proximate to the EU who has a population of 450M people and a GDP of $20T USD. So why are they not going all in on this?

With what?
Despite the thousand of claims to the contrary Europe is a mess as far as their Defense Industry goes. Due to the low demand for items there was no significant supply chain, and Europe was quite happy at the beginning to let the US supply equipment and munitions. While European support has jumped, the quantities do not exist to supply Ukraine with what is needed.

Look at the Armor production in Europe - even at this point in history the US Army plant in Lima OH on low rate production of the M1A2 makes more tanks than Europe combined in a year. The same goes for Artillery, IFV's, Fighter Aircraft, Missiles, etc.

It is exceedingly clear that some US Politicians and Senior Officials in Government are on the Russian payroll. There is no other explanation to both cripple the economy and US National Security in those actions.

How embarrassing for them. I guess the only solution is: USA to the rescue! Perhaps the EU should be going all in supporting US defence industry and buying the gear to secure their continent from the Russian threat. What is stopping massive money flows from EU to the USA to buy all the bits needed to counter Russia (without the USA eating a financial loss)? USA builds it, EU pays/obtains it, Ukraine uses it.

That is occurring -- you may notice several countries have bought stuff from the DoD as well as American Industry direct to give to Ukraine, some from their budget, others have used frozen and now seized Russian assets to fund it.

Europe is also slowly rearming - but the EU isn't the most efficient in business due to Hungary trying to shit on everything to make it easier for Vlad.

Frankly I think everyone should use the Russian assets they have to fund Ukraine. Maybe start a GoFundMe for some Minuteman III ICBM's, that surely would get old Vlad's attention ;)
