Hey everyone just got a question. I'm currently wanting to join as a Non Commissioned Member, and my mom is wanting me to get a degree. I know there are different programs to apply for that will allow you as a Non Commissioned Member to get a degree. Now my question, when I sign up for 3 years am I able to apply for ROTP after my contract expires?

Should I sign up again for however many years and apply for the Non Commissioned Member programs? or if able to apply for ROTP after contract is up?

What trade do you want to pursue as an NCM? I suggest receiving a university degree beforehand however...over the course of the degree you may learn you may not want to join the CF after all. Anyways, it will leave you options once out of the CF...and University is a good experience...and the reserves can reimburse you for it up to $2000 a year...and the reserves will give you a taste of the military experience...which would help you realize if you really want to join.

The NCM programs that you can receive a degree from are very competitive from what I hear. What I mean is, you will likely not get one from just a 3 year VIE, unless you are a special circumstance. I understand you should be able to apply for ROTP at any time you are out of the CF, however I have heard they do like to recruit younger people.

Anyways, talk to a recruiter about it...and be sure to not make any hasty decisions.

I recommend joining the reserves as an officer under the RESO program (I think that's what its called).  That way you have the best of both worlds.  You get to be in the CF, on a part time basis, get your degree while doing so, then when you are done, you can CT to the reg force and off you go.

I realize you mentioned wanting to go NCM, but the danger in doing that is that, although there are some programs that will allow you to complete your degree while an NCM in the reg force, they are highly competitive and there is no guarantee you will be accepted.
