To all you Highlanders

Tess is correct.   You can wear hair sporrans with long hose (diced in military uniform) and buckle brogues (or gillie brogues). A hair sporran should not be worn in civilian dress.   Wear a civie dress sporran; many are just as sharp as a hair sporrans and more useful for a flask etc :).

If your are wearing a Prince Charlie or Day jacket never wear spats.   And spats are not usually worn in evening dress (mess kit etc)   that is why in Blue patrols they sometimes wear long hose and brogues.   Manay units/bands have got away from this tradition due to the cost of long hose $200+.

If you do get spats make sure they fit properly.   Some are not tapered at the ankles and they are baggy looking.   Looks really bad.   Good spats will likely run about $45.   I personnally like long hose and buckle shoes best, but my wife (and many others) disagree.   You will seldom see civilians wearing spats.

I actually wore the hair sporn with my patrol blues and hose tops, no spats for my wedding and as well as my buddies. At another wedding we wore the full spats)

It actually looked very sharp, either way.

(I will scan some pics of the various weddings, with and without spats.)

A Blue Patrol kacket is a blue high collar jacket. It looks a lot like a police tunic (especialy older police uniforms).  We wear them mainly for mess functions and formal event yopu do not want to wear full dress or mess kit at.

You can see pictures of them here: http://tinyurl.com/5ooaq
