Hello,
6 years in the reserves as a Maintainer and have contemplated joining the reg force for the past 8 months. I have always loved the CAF since I was a child and I have seen how much my Parents enjoyed the reg force environment and opportunities given to them. They have been released from the regular force for over the last 10 years so they were in during the Steven Harper era.
Anyway, I have become sick and tired of this reserve unit I am in as they have stupid unit drama, politics and favouritism at large. I have gone through the chain to discuss some of the issues but the chain of command is also reservists that DGAF for lack of a better word. I mentioned my issues to my Veteran parents and they are shocked and can't believe the incompetency and stupidity in my unit, therefore I have been contemplating putting in my CT. I was hesitant about going straight into the Reg force when I first joined as I had other commitments and did not want to risk leaving the geographical area I live in but now I just don't care, and would rather risk being posted out of province rather than having to take more bull shit from my Unit. I don't want to get too deep into the problems with the unit specifically but let's just say they have lied or made false promises and given positions to the favourites who do back door favours instead of the folks that have real time in and deserve the job. Also, don't get me started on the pay issues, I don't know what it is about reservist clerks but most of them (in my unit at least) are just so clueless and careless which makes it inconvenient when you have to chase them around to their fucking job. I say this with having a mother who was an amazing ref force clerk who dealt with admin during the hay day of Afghanistan, so she knows what it means to be a decent clerk or not. Other than all that, just the lack of fairness in the unit is seen by many, and I have already had two close buddies of mine who joined around the same time, VR and focused on their Civi work because of the systemic issues.
Now, my question is when it comes to Component transfers to the reg force. What rules would apply when it comes to retaining your rank but wanting to switch trades? I am worried about losing the qualifications I have received and would not want to do trade courses again if I did stay in my same trade. Would I still keep my Cpl rank if I stayed in the same trade or would I be demoted until I complete the regforce version of that trade course? Also, has anyone put in a CT and had it declined by the unit out of spite or whatnot?
