Transferring from Supp Reserve to Pri Reserve

Hi there.  I am trying to get back into the Pri Reserve.  I retired from the reg force two years ago and on release I made sure I checked the box that said I wanted to transfer to the Supp reserve.

I am now going to university to complete my degree and I decided I would component transfer back to the Pri Reserve to get the education bursary plus a little extra walking around money to pay for all the Ramen.

Here is why I come to you folks today who can maybe point me in the right direction; I walked into the local reserve unit and they said there are tons of regs on how to go from the pri reserve to the supp reserve, but absolutely none on the other way around.  How can this be? I called the forces.ca 1-800 number and they said it was a simple component transfer, no paper work on my part needed.  I've also been down to the actual recruiting center and they also had no idea on how to proceed.

Surely I can't be the only former member in this situation. Do I need to write a memo here? And even if I do, who do I redress it to?

Any help you might have would be appreciated.

Chimo!

First you need to find a reserve unit that is willing to take you.  If you have been out for less than 5 years then it is a simple email from the clerks to Sup Res folks to get the HRMS and RPSR stuff done.  If you been out for more than 5 years then
a Verification of Former Service needs to be done.  Again, the first and most important step is to find a willing reserve unit.

Last year I transferred from SupRes to PriRes. I went to the unit I wanted to join and determined they had a position for me (mine is an ATR). Their recruiter started the ball rolling with the Chief Clerk and within a couple of months it was done. A very simple process on my part that only required my doing an EXPRES before things were finalized.

Due to my lack of experience I have no idea what the Supp Res is.....is that sort of like a "sleeper" reserve that can be activated when needed?

Edit, I Wiki'd it. So just to confirm, Pri Reserve is the "Thursday and Weekends" so to speak, and Supp Res is retired or inactive members who can be called upon if needed?

last summer I finished with a PRES unit as a 'supp reserve - attached posted' (retired from the regs out of Gagetown summer 06). From fall 06 to summer 010 I was doing unit medicals, promotion medicals, recruiting medicals, etc  on class A. Did about 4 months class B instructing, etc  out in BC. From what I heard through the grapevine, 'supp reserves - attached posted' is no more. Those that were "supp reserve - attached posted' were CTed to PRES

Yes, they keep the files out of the archives and pers that retire/release after so many years in either PRes or RegF can choose to be on SuppRes if they're medically fit when they release (No 3b).

Does the SupRes get any type of Pay?

No.

There used to be a small honorarium paid out once per year, but that ended in the early 90's I believe.
