Ok so I tried posting a similar post elsewhere and had no real responses. I am torn between waiting till April for my first choice and possibly taking my second choice in January. My first choice is Sup Tech and my second is AC Op. It's not a matter of me not being able to wait for my first choice it's whether or not it should be my first choice. I believe I want Sup Tech more but I feel I don't have enough information about the opportunities and drawbacks of each profession, therefore choosing between the two has been very difficult. I am looking for some personal stories and opportunities you may have had as Sup Tech or AC Op.

Some other information would be that my fiance is a Nuclear Power Engineer and has limited choices as to where he can travel to work so I wanted some clarification on where I could be put as an AC Op.

At this point, any information you would like to share would probably help! Thanks!

There are opportunities and drawbacks to any occupation in the military. Ultimately, the decision on either Sup Tech or AC Op is yours. With any occupation in the military, you could be posted anywhere in Canada or abroad. With AC Op, you would most likely end up on an air force base after your basic and trades training. With Sup Tech, you could end up at any air force, army or navy base across Canada. Where you are posted will be determined by your career manager, who may take into consideration your fiance's occupation. You can request a preferred posting to a specific location, but inevitability where you will be posted will be determined by the needs of the military.

Your life will be hell if your husband has limited employment options, geographically. The CAF might/might be able to accommodate your geographic request but don't count on it. You will be posted where you are required, especially as a new Member. And, even if initially you get the posting of your choice, you will eventually have to move, and your husband's job requirement will have zero impact on where they move you. Everyone else has a reason to stay or leave etc, that is just as good as yours. Seriously, if there are 5 places in Canada where you can be posted as an AC Tech, and your husband can work near only one of those places, you should expect to get posted al all other 4 spots!! Sup Techs are everywhere the CAF is. I've seen it again and again and again (and again) - people join with entirely unrealistic geographic expectations, then take it personally when the needs of the CAF do not align with their personal expectations. They wind up divorced or released.
