Trudeau and election promises

Anybody here anything with regards to timeline (or even if they're going to do it)?

They were pretty specific about policy changes during the campaign. It seems like this should be one of the first priorities. I'm all for legalizing marijuana, but nobody is being hurt or falling between the cracks if we have to wait a year or two before we see it.

Meanwhile, vets are in trouble TODAY and a year or two delay will almost certainly have human impacts.

Any news on this?

From what I have read it's hard to say. The biggest thing is that there is a process to everything. Some of the changes have to get parliamentary approval be tabled and more. This all takes time.

For pensions I have heard it will be brought in in 2017 so they have time to get it done right without causing issues down the line. I've also heard there's a chance it could be this year but there is nothing concrete as to when.

Just know there's a process and a lot to hammer out. We will most likely see what is coming this year when the budget is announced.

Not sure about timeline, but a CIBC study says it could net Canada $5 billion annually, and that's probably a conservative estimate. I for one wouldn't mind paying more if I know the money is going to public health. That's as close as you get to win-win in politics if you ask me.

According to this article this is expected in this years budget.

— A number of first instalments of promised multi-year funding: $750 million for post-secondary student grants; $300 million for jobs and skills training; $300 million for business innovation; $250 million for First Nations education; $325 million for pensions for injured veterans and other programs and services for vets.
