Trudeau Popularity - or not (various polling, etc.)

Cheryll Gallant; she's part of the Standing Committee on National Defence, and the specific questions in Hansard were to someone high up at Davie (Spencer Fraser?). She's also part of the NATO committee and some others.

I think it's just she's dumb AF, and Marines would give her the blue crayons to eat..
edit: I don't think it was the Hansard, it was a transcript from the committee itself, in either 2017 or 2018. I can't remember how to search for them.
I've only heard of a few of her worst gaffes being as far as I am from her riding.

There have also been those on these forums, though, that have subtly defended her as someone who must look after the needs of her constituency well if she keeps getting re-elected - especially with frequent +50% overall vote pull.

Yep. From Winnipeg, a full day’s drive west gets you to Regina. A full days drive east gets you to Thunder Bay. A full day’s drive south gets you to Minneapolis. And a full day’s drive north gets you to The Pas. There’s not a whole lot in between save for Brandon, Kenora, Grand Forks and Fargo.
Beggin yer pardon Regina is only six hours - five if you are heavy footed.

Tunder Bay is a full days drive. The rest of your assessment is spot on.

We had several personalities from the JPSU HQ and they were kinda dumbstruck by the distances we travel here.

You aren't Canadian if you don't know how to pronounce Port Mouton.
I'd never even heard of the place until just now...

It doesn't sound like it would even be close to Saskatchatoon. Sounds like it belongs out east (where it can be friends with all the other towns that have Port in their name)

At this point in his political life I just assume he's heavily medicated, so this makes sense in that light ;)

Trudeau says Kamala Harris's election loss was a setback for women's progress

'We were supposed to be on a steady, if difficult, march towards progress,' prime minister says

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said Tuesday that Kamala Harris's loss in the U.S. presidential election was a setback for women's progress — and cited several recent incidents that he said suggest women's rights are under attack by "regressive" and "reactionary" political forces.

In an address to an Ottawa gala for Equal Voice, an organization that works to get more women elected to public office, Trudeau said politicians who are hostile to women's rights — particularly a woman's right to choose abortion — are "winning too often, unfortunately." He said feminists like himself have to be "lucid" about the challenges ahead.

"We were supposed to be on a steady, if difficult, march towards progress. And yet, just a few weeks ago, the United States voted for a second time to not elect its first woman president," Trudeau said, adding that "women's rights and women's progress" are "under attack."

"And I want you to know that I am and always will be a proud feminist," he said. "You will always have an ally in me and my government."

the guy is good, I will give him that. Does it all with a straight face and in spite of his record with lady collegues.

Some thoughts on the LPC "Caucus revolt".
1. MP Sean Casey who was vocal about Trudeau needed to step down and plans to run again, looked angry and shaken coming out of the "we are a family" LPC caucus meeting yesterday and was very quick to say no to reporters;
2. Rose Mary Barton received a text from one of her anonymous sources (an unnamed LPC MP) saying they were told not to talk to media;
3. Several of the key players in the LPC cabinet got before camera and pushed "all is well, we just had to clear the air" messaging after the meeting; and
4. No clear indication or message was relayed as to what was different or going to be different.

I think in my opinion this shows more of Justin Trudeau's manipulative and narcissistic personality. It was disgusting and once again tone deaf, very badly. However I applaud his stubborn willingness to stay on as he is guaranteeing that LPC in its current Trudeau-mania 2.0 form will crash and burn very hard. Even Nik Nanos was theorizing the very slight uptick in LPC popularity this past week was most likely the idea that Trudeau was going to leave as party leader and PM. He has stated if Trudeau stays, it won't be good.
The nonsensical and empty messaging that came from the likes of Mark Miller, JP Champagne and Freeland is more about "people are upset because the economy is bad, we are a united team and defeating the big bad wolf known as Pierre P is more important...blah, blah, blah bullshit". This total lack of situational awareness is going to hammer the LPC very badly.
MPs that have spoken out and were more or less (probably) told to STFU, worship Trudeau and show a united front. Its these MPs who face a lynch mob in their own ridingsthat will most likely start doing some serious back stabbing to the LPC inner circle.

Used to joke about Winnipeg being basically an eight hour drive from anywhere.

I think that if any liberal MP was entertaining thoughts of being re-elected, there is one possibility.

Stand up and vote against the government. Be vocal with their criticism of trudeau and his Ministers. Force an election. Their party colleagues may not like it, but a voice from the back bench wilderness might be what some voters want to see. And in the end, someone with balls to speak truth to a tyrant is just the type of independent candidate voters might want.
