Trump administration 2024-2028

no the voting is over. If all there is to democracy is voting every 4 yrs or so then everything is a democracy

What else would you like to do ? I guess you could protest... This all assumes that you're American and actually have a dog in this fight...

Any reason to think he has any better a grasp of strategic level thinking and policy than any other National Guard major? I’m pretty sure we basically tried this already a couple defence ministers ago and it didn’t go so hot.
I am less concerned about his Military background, he served honorably and gained numerous experiences.

I am more impressed by other things he has done:

He has a BA from Princeton and an MPP from Harvard University, and is Ivy League educated.
Worked for Bear Sterns
Ran a number of political action committees and lobbying groups: Vets for Freedom, Concerned Vets of America, etc
Worked for MIRP (Think Tank)
Authored four books

His salary at FOX was reportedly $8 million annually and he is a multi-millionaire. Him taking the SecDef job is a significant pay cut considering the salary is only $250,000 a year.

He also isn't part of the political establishment or associated with the MIC at all which I view as a big bonus!

He is far more accomplished and imminently more qualified than any of the clowns we have in Office in Ottawa, with the exception of Anand... I like Anita Anand, too bad Trudeau sidelined her.

Or removing women from combat units.

I don't agree with his opinion on this, that being said, I agree with 95% of everything else he says. Which is the beauty of politics. You can disagree with someone on an issue and still support them politically because you like other aspects of their platform.

Subject to confirmation, of course - or maybe not?
I might as well make a sign that says “something something removal of guardrails” at this point.

Donald Trump has demanded that the three frontrunners to lead the Senate allow him to appoint officials to his new administration without confirmation hearings on Capitol Hill, as a future Republican government began to take shape the week after his election victory.

In a demonstration of his political muscle, the US president-elect urged support for “recess appointments”, which allow the president to make appointments while the Senate is temporarily paused, and can be used to circumvent the confirmation process, which can result in appointments being delayed or blocked.

Also, reminder that in the US, midterm elections are also super important as the House and Senate terms end at different times. So Americans essentially vote every 2 years, not 4.

If you don’t think Canadians ought to be concerned about American politics, especially with the incoming POTUS I don’t know what to tell you, or why your in this thread.

I don't think I said Canadians shouldn't be concerned. But unless you're an eligible voter in the USA there isn't much you can do.

I mean you can pine away on Army.ca all you'd like, I suppose that's conversation.

Why is everyone even commenting Trump is nominating loyalists? Did you think after getting Rick Rolled his entire first term he was going to trust the established bureaucrats? Second term Trump is going to be a major disruptor, he is going to be a wrecking ball to the establishment that derailed and literally tried to jail or kill him. And it looks like the majority of American voters agree with that - he has validation. This is a reap the whirlwind phase for the crooked establishment. In fact, I think vindictive Second term Trump with a clean electoral sweep and the popular vote is going to strike so much fear into the establishment, I’ll be surprised he survives long enough to do what he intends to do. If you thought J6 was bad, wait and see what happens if they JFK the Donald. The USSS has its work cut out for them.

according to many maga types the USSS is in on it.
Ah those extremists, yes. According to mainstream dems and media, Trump is Hitler incarnate. So anything goes to stop Hitler.

Yes we should be concerned - about any change in government pretty much anywhere in the world. There isn't much we can do to influence Americans other than trust that our government can....

Not sure about that nonesense. Just the conspiracy theories that went around that the USSS was in on it.
