Trump administration 2024-2028

Any reason to think he has any better a grasp of strategic level thinking and policy than any other National Guard major? I’m pretty sure we basically tried this already a couple defence ministers ago and it didn’t go so hot.
He might be better in his sandbox than Harris was in hers.

All this hand-wringing over credentials for political appointments that bypasses the tops of the tickets is merely amusing.

Ill let you know when he actually does stuff. Its all just words now.
You really shouldn't want that. They might end up with f*ck-ups like Iraq or Libya or other things that can be avoided if you just have really well-credentialed people filling the keystone cabinet secretary appointments.

We aren’t talking about credentials. In his case we’re talking about experience, particularly executive and governmental experience. In other cases like Gaetz and Gabbard - and I’m sure others still to come - we may also be talking about basic ethics and credibility.

We haven’t even gotten to the blatantly corrupt family nepotism yet. We will.

Will we? Or is all this feverish speculation just going to end up as a late presidential poll in Iowa?

If we’re going by the “facta non verba” criteria, no, Ivanka Trump did nothing in her father’s administration in 2017-2021…

Oh wait.

A House rep protesting a move of military facilities out of his district is unsurprising, regardless who holds the WH.
Yes. What I’m saying is that given Trump’s slant towards loyalty over all else, said Rep probably isn’t in the good books right now.

Or the erosion of rights like abortion that was claimed to be crying wolf? lol.

Sure sure.
The erosion that was slowly being worked out in plain view for 50 years by generations of patient Republicans and conservatives of many kinds? They didn't pretend that the thing that they never conceded was a constitutional right in the first place wasn't going to go away if they got into a position to undo it.

There will be changes that disappoint people who think they are the only ones whose changes take effect and remain in effect. I am skeptical that a couple of dozen key players plus their staffs are going to bend to the fullest expression of their will the Senate, House, courts, and executive agencies, which collectively number hundreds of thousands of people with minds and wills of their own and at least rudimentary understanding of their knowledge of circumstances.

When people push a pendulum hard in one direction, they are partly responsible for how far back it swings. They should not act surprised or distraught when it eventually happens. They should not become hysterical, either.

Are you fucking serious Brad?

There are some odd picks by Trump then two ludicrously stupid ones.
Gaetz for AG? I mean JFC so much for law and order.
Gabbard for DNI is just as fucking stupid, back when she was ranting about US bio labs in Ukraine.

One could make a pretty good case about enemies foreign and DOMESTIC at this point.

Don't know enough about Gabbard.

Gaetz was accused and not charged. Who here interprets that as if he's guilty? Am I supposed to be the one person here who thinks congressional investigations are entirely non-partisan? AG hasn't been apolitical at least since Eric "Wingman" Holder held it. Am I supposed to believe that when Bill Clinton forced a visit on AG Lynch during an airport stopover it was an entirely innocent conversation that both of them knew should absolutely have never been allowed to take place (his wife being under investigation)? Sure, the past doesn't excuse the future. Clean up the AG office. Democrats first, since they've gained a bit politically and ought to lose a bit politically to encourage their sincerity. To be politically practical, Democrats might have to put up with a bit of focused law enforcement, since they've been enthusiastic about practicing it themselves.

I've argued before that some of the things done in the past by Democrats were excessive and would produce political problems down the road. Here we are.

Wait…is this what Trump was talking about when he said “the enemy within”?

isnt the House Republican?

He literally already did it last time he was in office, so yes we will. Remember when he specifically created a new position in the White House for his son in law Jared Kushner?
If it helps you to cope, keep rolling out the examples. I doubt history will unroll to match the alarmism I enjoyed on CNN and MSNBC for the past few days.

People believe all sorts of ludicrous stuff. I remember just on the other side of election day when people were clinging to hopes of hidden Republican Never-Trump voters and an amazingly unbelievable poll in Iowa. Have they learned to doubt fantastic ideas? Probably not.

[Add: also, remember when the DoJ tried to make an unbelievably generous plea deal with Hunter Biden? Corruption isn't partisan.]

Cope? I’m straight up laughing at the picks now, especially with Gaetz. I was originally baffled at the win, then realized after “no Haley or Pompeo” that Trump was serious about picking loyalty over competency. Then the pick for SECDEF caused a few GOPs to question the choice. And now Gaetz and Gabbard.

When people from the party that won publicly airs their doubts about a Cabinet pick, within days of the win, that is not the sign of a united party.

I can’t wait to see who gets nominated as Secretary of State. Laura Loomer? Or is she more of a Department of Education pick? :ROFLMAO:

What part of what I have said is ludicrous? I staked a claim that Trump will again, as he has in the past, make nepotism appointments to family. Please kindly explain what of this is ‘coping’ or ‘ludicrous’ or ‘fantastic’? The best predictor of future behaviour is past performance. We literally have his actual record to work on. It doesn’t and cannot get more fact based than this when trying to anticipate something yet to come.

If he goes and again appoints Kushner, or Ivanka, or any of his other kids to administration positions will you eat your words on this?

Imagine having Nikki Haley right there and instead going out of your way to specifically announce that you’re excluding her from your administration.

Probably the best thing that could happen to her, honestly. Once Trump’s done in four years, the Republicans may face an uphill battle to select a next candidate who isn’t an obvious Trumpist successor.

Sadly, I predict Trump will "nominate" a successor to wield the MAGA torch, and it won't be a traditional republican, and it won't necessarily be a politician, and because of Trump's blessing, the movement will get behind him.
