Trump administration 2024-2028

They're responsible for physically signing on the dotted line to block that disaster relief? That's terrible.
Between Musk’s “I’ll throw my money to folks trying to Primary you” threat to the GOP reps who didn’t fall in line, to his 40+ tweets calling to shut down the govt, it’s not exactly being subtle.

Like the leadership saying “you are highly encouraged to go to this event”.

Whinging or assigning moral blame about the loss of particular "good" provisions in a defeated massive bill is an absurd and irrational waste of time. There are almost always "children and puppies" provisions. Just because politicians and their propagandizing sycophants want to talk about the Few Good Things doesn't mean everyone else should vacate his head as if it were an adjunct to his bowels.

Whinging about voters taking sudden and vocal interest in bills and threatening to "Cheney" their representatives is almost as absurd. The whole point of voting is to select political representation that suits you. It would border on imbecilic to expect voters to do this in ignorance of what is in bills and in silence, especially if one has in the past lamented about ignorant and apathetic voters. Kudos to the people who shine light onto the bills-that-must-be-passed-to-be-read and raise public engagement.

Next up: separate bills for funding continuation, disaster aid, and farm aid. A 2/3 majority is required in the House to expedite the process to a floor vote. There will be nowhere for politicians to hide if they choose not to expedite the process for a bill or oppose a bill on a floor vote.

Apparently Danielle Smith will not only be in Washington for Trump's inauguration but has also scored tickets to the actual inauguration.

Wonder if she'll sit with Trudeau.

A 2017 article on Canadian PMs and Presidential Inaugurations

Canadian prime ministers do not attend presidential inaugurations

Musk has no need to even pretend to give a fuck about how things look. He wants to blatantly purchase government, so he’s going about doing so at a brisk clip. People are either fine with this or they’re not, but this isn’t a ‘frog in a pot of water’ thing. He’s shown up and scalded a government that doesn’t even quite exist yet.

That's interesting. I just assumed many world leaders would attend something like that. Looks like it's tradition none attend.

The House has passed a continuing resolution. All Democrats and 170 Republicans voted yes; 34 Republicans voted no. Trump did not get his debt limit increase.

It has to pass the Senate still, but the House was the major obstacle.

Not just that none ever attended, but that none have ever been invited or even wanted.

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (AP) — More world leaders are confirming they have been invited to President-elect Donald Trump’s inauguration, and Argentine President Javier Milei is disclosing his plans to travel to Washington, breaking an American political tradition that kept foreign heads of state away from the transfer of power.

Milei’s spokesman Manuel Adorni told journalists in a text message that Trump had invited the Argentine leader, noting how it was the first time such an invitation had been extended to the president from the South American nation. And the Salvadoran ambassador to the U.S. said there had been an invitation to President Nayib Bukele and was still waiting to hear whether he would accept it.

No head of state has previously made an official visit to the U.S. for the inauguration.

On Monday, Trump spoke about his invitation to Chinese President Xi Jinping, revealing he had not declined it or confirmed his attendance yet. He was asked which other world leaders had been invited and whether Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy was among them. Trump said the Ukrainian leader had not been invited, “but if he’d like to come, I’d like to have him.”

I absolutely love reading the crying on here about Musk. If only those people made as much noise about real and actual corruption and not someone exercising their rights/abilities.

What are your thoughts on the influence he’s purchasing with the executive and legislative branches? Are you cool with it then?

Like what?
Like over $110m of his own money in a presidential PAC, and threatening to fund primary challenges against any members of the House who don’t vote the way he wants, something enabled by his immense wealth. As a direct result he’s literally by Trump’s side constantly despite having no elected or appointed position. We’re already seeing consequential policy pledges by Trump suited to Musk’s desires, such as, as I mentioned, scrapping automotive safety reporting requirements that pose challenges to Tesla.

Two immediately-at-hand examples or purchased influence, and this is before the inauguration has even happened.

You and I butt heads frequently, but I have no reason to think or accuse you of being a stupid man. It’s blatantly obvious what Musk is doing, and you’re as capable as anyone else of seeing it. He’s being right out in the open about it.

So are you cool with it or not?

He's overpaying. He could be creating paid positions for family members in low six figures, or giving tips on commodities futures.

Like Trump pushing the narrative that the Bidens had shady contracts with Ukrainian companies, to find that the key witness made it up?

These two things can both be true.

A guy made up a story about the Bidens' shady contracts.

The Bidens nevertheless had shady contracts, which is suggested by Joe's application of funding leverage to secure removal of an inconvenient investigator looking into a company with which Hunter was involved.
