Trump administration 2024-2028

Just reading that Trump is going to close the carried interest tax deduction loophole. That means Wall Street traders and investment fund managers tax rates top out at 40% and not ~25%.

If you want to see some dirty dying dog lobbying take place, keep an eye on what happens. (Ie they could close the loophole and just as easily zero out the tax or raise it to the max- we’ll see but it would be a spectacular fail on Wall Street if they don’t outsmart him and come out ahead.). Gaza is just a distraction….

Zero chance Trump and his crew follow a COA that will end up in a net tax increase to big business or the rich. If they go through with this it’ll be heavily offset by something else.

Oh for sure it will be yet another heist.

That is NOT / NOT RUMINT.

It is Russian misinformation, as indicated in the community note to the tweet.

Meanwhile, that lie just received an added boost courtesy of Army.ca

Meanwhile, DOGE firing alright, DOGE stops (for now, anyway?)!

Good. A hard pause needs to be put on ‘DOGE’s activities until this can be properly assessed for legality. This is absolutely unprecedented and is a significant threat to the security of most Americans’ personal information. An oligarch has been given the keys to the data kingdom with no executive oversight and no legislative mandate.

Today’s order (on a Saturday morning!) temporarily and preliminarily blocks their actions vis a vis Treasury pending further hearing. An action against their intrusion into the labor department was dismissed yesterday for lack of plaintiff standing but the judge there too expressed concerns about what ‘DOGE’ is doing- someone with a claim to standing will be along shortly to pick it back up.

We’re seeing a massive, massive intrusion by the executive branch here. I’ve commented a few times that this administration is going to be memorable for the division of powers struggles across both branches and levels. This is part of it.

More court action: in response to an action brought by unions, a federal judge has temporarily restrained the placing on leave and repatriation of 2200 USAID employees and has ordered the reversal of the placing on leave of 500 others who have already been hit. Hearings to follow next week.

Doesn’t appear the courts are going to just roll over and permit a killdozer approach to shrinking the executive branch with disregard for proper legal process. Federal courts are gonna be SUPER busy with emergency motions. I’ll be curious to see if before too long there’s a temporary halt put to DOGE in its entirety until this can get properly sorted.

Oddly, what seems to bother me more is not the actions of DOGE (but it still really bothers me), but the support and even praise it's receiving from Trump supports (at least what appears on social media).

Authoritarians, to take and retain power, have always depended on the active cheerleading and tacit consent of those willing to tolerate unlawfulness and autocratic excess as long as it’s wrapped in their preferred flag.

The Republicans hold a razor thin majority in the House of Representwtives and a thin majority in the Senate, though with the latter, arguably, containing more members who will buck Trump’s attempt to command them.

We can expect that with the usual turnover of retirements, medical conditions, a death or two, scandals etc that the MAGA crew will have to fight VERY hard to retain control over the legislature. The two current House vacancies are both Florida; whichever Republican pulls the knife out of the alligator’s head will get crowned king for those. But with 435 voting seats elected biannually, things could shift quickly. The executive knows this and I think this information their haste to wreck.
