Trump administration 2024-2028

I guess she doesn't mind alienating the roughly 53 million Catholics in the US.

Trump says he want to make the US more religious. Maybe just not that religion. Maybe he can get Vance to declare, like Greenland, that the Vatican has run the Church very poorly and demand a US Cardinal be appointed, or else we'll . . .
To be fair, MTG is probably the kind of American that thinks Catholics are Satanists anyways lol.

It seems that Hegseth still has the confidence of the President. From my perspective, it's far more important that he has the confidence of the 2.1M service members he is responsible for. Honour would say it's time for him to fall on his sword, but I expect him not to, which will say much about his honour, or lack thereof.
I wouldn't expect US service members to be any more worried about confidence in the Secretary than ours have in the Minister.

And that very well could be because the 10yr T-bill is back up to 4.40ish%. The very brief 1 day spike north of 4.50% is what got so much attention 10 days ago. We are not really that far from that same level now. If there is no positive tariffs talks this week and through the weekend, expect the 4.50% barrier to be reached or breached. This will happen for certain if Orange Man talks more about replacing the Fed Chairman.

In just a few short months Trump has achieved nothing short of a political blitzkrieg. First he got total control of Congress. Then he started rounding up illegals and dissidents and deporting them to foreign prisons. And now he’s a step closer to getting total control over the media.

"Total control". Do you actually understand what that has to mean?

I don’t think there are many who would argue that he doesn’t exert total control over Congress. Plus, he and his henchman Musk have gutted department after department to get rid of those who would disagree with him. He’s working on getting rid of Jerome Powell. He has “freed” and made heroes of those who attacked the nation’s Capitol while going after the prosecutors and others who helped investigate and convict the rioters. He has his administration going after legal firms, universities, private corporations and others he considers to be adversaries. And, yes, media companies as well. I have to say, he’s doing a very good job of it…like he promised to do. I’ll give him that.

But when I say “total control” I suspect you’re going to want to deliver me some serious enlightenment?

He's expressed a desire for the Senate to remove the legislative filibuster. Republicans in Senate, including the leadership that matter, have said no. Trump doesn't get everything he wants any more than any previous president. He doesn't have "total control".

A president has the right to staff his administration with political appointees who will carry out his wishes, and the right to expect employees and other non-political staff to execute policy, including policy with which they disagree, short of expecting them to break laws. The Fed is meant to be independent; he can try, but will probably fail.

We'll have to wait and see where this lands. No-one is above the law; people who stepped outside the lines might have to answer. Not too long ago it might have been reasonable to expect some forbearance and discretion, but attitudes changed.

Sure. His is not the first administration to "go after" critics and adversaries. Nor is the administration bound against pursuing institutions that appear to not be complying with federal law. If "going after" means investigations and taking matters to court to test competing case theories, it's legitimate and necessary. The standard is that no-one is above the law, and investigation and prosecution should be conducted zealously.

Not all legal questions have single obvious answers. Hence, courts. Even decisions of courts are subject to interpretation and continued litigation.
