Trump administration 2024-2028

…the rage stems mostly from the proposed eventual transfer to the presidential library foundation? … If the eventual transfer to the foundation were shorn, would it be acceptable?
If it was a gift to the government, the next POTUS would be able to keep using it. Once it’s with one former President’s library foundation, will other presidents be able to use it? If “yes,” then it looks way less like a gift to the individual. And I’m happy to be educated on that point, one way or another.

And if a similar “gift” with the same conditions were made to Biden, how many ok with the arrangement now would have been happy then?

Is Boeing not performing, or is the USAF not delivering requirements in a timely manner?

Loaning an asset to the US Government to then roll over as a grift to the former president is presumptively a bribe. There is no serious discussion possible on that point.

A government has many options and choices; a foreign potentate hading over a luxury aircraft to curry favour is not one that a reasonable person could support.

I gather the teapot of the rage du jour is the about-to-be-former Qatari aircraft that is to be an interim/alternative/backup aircraft when one of the primary VC-25As is in maintenance, and that the rage stems mostly from the proposed eventual transfer to the presidential library foundation?

That is less remarkable than the revelation that replacement aircraft ordered in 2017 are unlikely to enter service until 2035, by the manufacturer's (Boeing) admission.

A bona fide requirement is to be filled in short order, which limits options. What are the options? If the eventual transfer to the foundation were shorn, would it be acceptable?
What rage? We’re simply pointing out blatant corruption as blatant corruption. They literally have a bit in their constitution about this. This isn’t ‘rage’ worthy; it’s just Trump being Trump. Just that none of us are inclined to pretend it’s anything other than what it is though.

And no, this won’t be usable as an alternate Air Force One, at least not til they’ve stripped it down to the frame and rebuilt it to make sure there are no unwelcome electronic surprises buried within. It will also take significant reconfiguration to add all the various security and communications equipment needed for AF1 use.

EDIT TO ADD: What tariff rate would apply to this? 10% or something different? Who’s paying that?

I think you're being a tad melodramatic here...how much of a "significant reconfiguration" is it to add the Signal App to the air phones?

there also is already an alternate Air Force One, there are two VC-25A aircraft in service.

At this stage, do you think they really care? Or that their Justice Department won't provide an opinion supporting it?
"Attorneys for the White House counsel's office and the Department of Justice were said to have drafted an analysis for Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth that determined it would be "legally permissible" for the Department of Defense to accept the jet and later turn it over to the Trump Presidential Library."

Source.

And POTUS is stating he will be making a Very-Important-Message in the near future. No idea what it will entail.

Think CH-148 contract on steroids…

A gift to a foundation can sure look like a gift to the individual. Where foundations, donations, contracts, etc are concerned, all have the stink of impropriety.

I see it the same way I see the Clinton foundation and Hunter's remarkable ability to extract large money flows with no talent. I may not see both sides of the quid pro quo, but people don't give money or in-kind contributions to politicians or close family without some kinds of expectations. So my question is, how many were happy before?

Sure. As I wrote above, what did everyone riding a high horse now have to say about equally obvious corruption attached to previous administrations? Part of the critical choir, or part of the well-now-there's-no-direct-proof choir?

When one is undergoing maintenance, there is no alternate. The ostensible problem is that the aging aircraft require more frequent and longer maintenance intervals so that putting up with "primary and no alternate" is decreasingly tolerable.

and that has been the situation for years. I don't know for sure but i suspect the E-4 NEACP planes are the tertiary back-ups, why is a third AIr Force One needed now?

Ask the USAF. See here (WSJ article).

"The U.S. Air Force has long wanted a third jet to serve as a backup when one of the current pair is undergoing maintenance, according to people familiar with the matter.

The VC-25As date to the George H.W. Bush administration and increasingly require heavy maintenance, potentially limiting the president’s transportation options on overseas missions when one of the planes is in the shop."

like a supreme court justice accepting millions of dollars of "gifts" from "friends"
It's a damn fine camper.

And between inflation and the increased value of owning the one and only POTUS instead of owning one of nine SCOTUS justices, the 1000x (plus) increase is worth it.
