One party is an immigrant gaoler, the other an elected federal rep. There should be no question of who defers to whom if there's a question of appropriate action.

Re: employees of Congress, the access option seems pretty clear if it's someone told off to poke around and report back (24 hours notice). Still curious what the original intent was/what comparable practice might be as far as a Congressperson showing up with their entourage. Does Senator Bloggins have to leave their aides at the gate? Can't really see that being in the original intent.

"Original intent" probably didn't include many site visits, considering the transportation technology of the time. Nor massive staffs. Obviously we can't ask.

Irrelevant to my point, which is not about who defers to whom but is about all laws being taken equally seriously.

I didn't realize that transportation technology had changed that much in the six years since the requirement to permit Congresspersons access to ICE detention facilities was included in the appropriations acts.

I wrote about the concept of oversight. Even now it is mostly conducted by going through paperwork.

Regardless, it isn't difficult to distinguish between performative grandstanding and genuine inquiry and investigation.
 
I saw Trump’s speech he made at West Point the other day. He seemed even more irrational and disconnected than ever before. He hardly smiled. I wouldn’t be surprised if he suffers a significant mental collapse before long. If that happens I wonder how long the White House can keep it a secret before word leaks out. Kind of like how Biden’s staff kept certain members of Congress from finding out about his occasions of cognitive impairment during the election…in addition to the one that occurred during the debates.

In other news POTUS is upset again at VVP - and sanctions have been suggested amongst other things. If Trump has realized (finally) that Putin is playing him for a chump, he may be very reactive as he has in the past.

I do understand that they are not supposed to. I also understand when they do it does not give others the right to assault them. it's like anything else, you voice your opinion, they refuse, leave and file your complaint to have it resolved. As a supposed leader I expect them to deal with it properly instead of resorting to violence. I have a right to get to my worksite but sometimes strikers refuse to let us through until the police get involved. I don't resort to violence.

Except that isn't how it works.
It isn't assault to attempt to move into a building you are legally permitted to enter. They have the full force of the law on their side, as would LEO's serving a warrant etc.

Well in this case the press is going to be looking hard for any tidbit on his health, as opposed to many of them seemingly turning a blind eye to the issue during Biden's term.
