Trump administration 2024-2028

It seems pretty clear that there’s a place for exquisite systems, but that they need to be in conjunction with the ability to mass fires with lots of ‘good enough’ so that worthy targets aren’t neglected.
Shermans versus Tigers and the west learned the wrong lessons from WW2.

China seemed to learn that quantity is a quality of its own.

Shermans versus Tigers and the west learned the wrong lessons from WW2.
What lessons, one wonders. That having a lot of armoured formations based on a handful of organization templates and with a few equipment types and a lavish logistical tail is better than having fewer formations with bewildering assortments of domestic and captured equipment that are constrained by fuel and ammo shortages?

From the administration complaining about the taking down of monuments & erasing history ...

To be fair, they have been remarkably consistent.

They only complained about taking down white monuments and erasing white history.

This is just par for the course.

I don’t see this as humorous. Garten sounds like a sick, perverted little prick who would do anything to get more power, not just in his state of Indiana but to eventually take his politics on the road nationwide. I wouldn’t even be surprised if his mention of “The North” refers to the politics of Pinkoland…that area to the north of the U.S. border. What’s going on in the U.S. is not going to end when Trump’s current or possibly next term of office ends. So much outright hatred going on. Makes me wonder…if a friendly neighbour develops a split personality (dissociative identity disorder) — one good and the other very bad —can you ever really and truly trust that person again?

No.

You cannot.

The US electorate has proven that they cannot be trusted.

The only way Canada/the world can trust the USA ever again is if the Republican party purges MAGA and even then, the electorate needs to prove that the MAGA party isn't a electoral possibility.

But seeing as the MAGA takeover of the Republican party happened a long time ago, that is very unlikely to happen, thus no matter how nice the Americans pretend to be when MAGA isn't in power, the fact that one election cycle can turn all of that on its head means that they cannot be trusted.

But by all means, lets buy their planes....

On the historic pop-cult front, on all that Norman Rockwell art in some of the current admin's graphics, there appears to be a bit of pushback from the family.
USA Today's opinion piece also archived here.

IMHO, it will take a two, if not four successive Democrat wins to fully purge MAGA from the Republican party. It will take a generation to undo the harm done by the current administration. The respect lost by the american people will not be easily won back.

Fucking shame they voted to put their own interests first.

Also, disband the Democratic party entirely. See, I can think that deeply, too.

And that won't happen. Trump was 4 years removed from office and he won because things costed more.

The American electorate simply picks the other party when they don't like how things are going, and it doesn't matter to them who's in charge of it.

Again, the American electorate can no longer be trusted to make rational choices when it comes to elections. Trump 45, yeah, maybe a mistake, maybe a gamble. Trump 47, yeah, they knew exactly who he was, what he would do, and they voted for him. Not only did they vote for him, he took over the Republican party, purged anyone who knew anything, and replaced them with sycophants who do nothing but treat him as dear leader who knows everything about everything while knowing nothing about anything.

We can never trust them again.

It may take a lot longer than that. Italy’s Mussolini, Spain’s Franco and Argentina’s Peron, for example, to this day still have fanatics devoted to recreating the past glories of their ex-leader. The enormous influence of the SuperPACs tends to create a perpetual climate of fear and loathing.

While I don't think it's possible for the Dems to win 4 elections in a row, even if they did, by some miracle, I have zero faith that in year 16 when the GOP wins again it wouldn't be one of the MAGA types that just bidded their time. And that gives Canada and the world what, a 16 year reprieve from the madness?

The America that could be trusted died either in 2016, and if not then, 2024 for sure. It's never coming back.

I agree, the Democratic Party has gone the extremist route as well. Perhaps not as much so as the Trump Party (no longer the Republican Party of old). But still, both parties need to be replaced. I believe in evolution, not revolution. I was born in the U.S. during the Truman years and remember well the mostly wonderful years under the Eisenhower administration leading to the Kennedy years. Times may have changed enormously since then but both national parties have changed far more than the times should warrant, at least in my opinion. Paranoia runs deep throughout the America of today. I am no longer a U.S. citizen but it pains me to see how communities and even individual families are being divided by the growing extremist views.
