Trump administration 2024-2028

The US electorate has proven that they cannot be trusted.
Fucking shame they voted to put their own interests first.
The only way Canada/the world can trust the USA ever again is if the Republican party purges MAGA and even then, the electorate needs to prove that the MAGA party isn't a electoral possibility.
Also, disband the Democratic party entirely. See, I can think that deeply, too.

IMHO, it will take a two, if not four successive Democrat wins to fully purge MAGA from the Republican party. It will take a generation to undo the harm done by the current administration. The respect lost by the american people will not be easily won back.
And that won't happen. Trump was 4 years removed from office and he won because things costed more.

The American electorate simply picks the other party when they don't like how things are going, and it doesn't matter to them who's in charge of it.

Again, the American electorate can no longer be trusted to make rational choices when it comes to elections. Trump 45, yeah, maybe a mistake, maybe a gamble. Trump 47, yeah, they knew exactly who he was, what he would do, and they voted for him. Not only did they vote for him, he took over the Republican party, purged anyone who knew anything, and replaced them with sycophants who do nothing but treat him as dear leader who knows everything about everything while knowing nothing about anything.

We can never trust them again.

It may take a lot longer than that. Italy’s Mussolini, Spain’s Franco and Argentina’s Peron, for example, to this day still have fanatics devoted to recreating the past glories of their ex-leader. The enormous influence of the SuperPACs tends to create a perpetual climate of fear and loathing.

While I don't think it's possible for the Dems to win 4 elections in a row, even if they did, by some miracle, I have zero faith that in year 16 when the GOP wins again it wouldn't be one of the MAGA types that just bidded their time. And that gives Canada and the world what, a 16 year reprieve from the madness?

The America that could be trusted died either in 2016, and if not then, 2024 for sure. It's never coming back.

I agree, the Democratic Party has gone the extremist route as well. Perhaps not as much so as the Trump Party (no longer the Republican Party of old). But still, both parties need to be replaced. I believe in evolution, not revolution. I was born in the U.S. during the Truman years and remember well the mostly wonderful years under the Eisenhower administration leading to the Kennedy years. Times may have changed enormously since then but both national parties have changed far more than the times should warrant, at least in my opinion. Paranoia runs deep throughout the America of today. I am no longer a U.S. citizen but it pains me to see how communities and even individual families are being divided by the growing extremist views.

One could make the case that the DNC was even more out of touch with America than those that argue the same about MAGA.

WTF were they thinking keeping Biden on the 2024 ticket to start?!? And then when that thundered in, that they doubled down with Harris instead of letting Newsom or Buttigieg be considered…un******* believable.

Funny that anybody believe Trump thinks deeply about geopolitics. His focus is on stuff like this.

I urge everyone to listen to the podcast. Part of the reason they are f'd is because conspiracy theorist Laura Looker got their top China expert (David Fife) fired. When loyalty (according to conspiracies) and optics matter more than competence the bench won't be deep. And it's showing.

I take it on principle that it is poor form to underestimate anybody.

Or he won because the alternative was at first someone clearly not up to the job, and at second someone clearly not up to the job.

People want to create reasons to blame, fine; but don't evade the central fact that it was a choice with only two options.

Trump has consistently chickened out against Xi and Putin. He can't seem to fathom the US is more powerful. He defaults to being a puppy around them.

Mayhap. Has he started any wars yet?

Well, that certainly doesn't sound ominous at all.

Nice to see the courts still have some kind of influence...

Trump says he's removing National Guard troops from Chicago, Los Angeles and Portland

The development comes after the Supreme Court blocked the Trump administration's request to deploy National Guard troops in Illinois.

The Supreme Court last week declined an emergency request from the Trump administration that said the troops were necessary to protect federal agents working in Chicago to enforce immigration policies.

In an unsigned order, the court rejected the administration's claim that circumstances on the ground in Illinois met the criteria for the president to invoke a federal law allowing him to call up the National Guard to federal service.

“At this preliminary stage, the Government has failed to identify a source of authority that would allow the military to execute the laws in Illinois,” the court ruled.

The decision involved only Chicago, but it was likely to strengthen other challenges to National Guard deployments. It does not affect the District of Columbia, where troops have also been deployed, as it is a federal district, not a state.

A spokesperson for California Gov. Gavin Newsom — a Democrat — said in an email Wednesday: "We won in court and forced him to. Trump’s rambling here is the political version of 'you can’t fire me, I quit.'"

Fore!

Some background commentary.

Was he air dropping presents in Venezuelan waters, Nigeria and Iran?

Also, this is a nonsense metric made up by his supporters and sympathizers. The test is restraint when difficult (say after 9/11). Not when easy. He's failed spectacularly. And worse. His caving and using expensive munitions on inconsequential non-strategic targets is making war elsewhere more likely.

I would say "failed spectacularly" but he may have failed spectrally too. ;)
