Great, you can Google (or whatever), I was going by memory of what I learned in school, which was a long time ago. Still, as I posted, America is the name that was given to the so-called New World. Everyone in North and South America could be called "Americans", in theory. The Yanks use the word in the title of their country and think that it only applies to them. They are wrong in that assumption. It applies to the whole continent, North and South. It doesn't matter, as the Yanks will continue to consider that "America" only applies to them. Doesn't really matter what Trump wants to rename the Gulf of Mexico, the rest of the world will continue to call it that.

Except maybe you and @Oldgateboatdriver should contemplate something.

1) If everyone is entitled to America, then it should be no big deal if someone renames Lake Ontario right?

It is viewed as American citizenship, with the citizenry called Americans. My fellow Americans may also be a small clue.


While Canadians is the term for those with Canadian citizenship.

So if it’s appropriation of America, that ship sailed, the 250th isn’t exactly any chance of that changing - with or without the current POTUS.

Obviously it's not going to change, never said it would. Just pointed out the fact that America is the name of the continent and that anyone in North or South America could be rightly called an American. BTW, you all down there in the United States have US citizenship, not American citizenship, right? Anyway, doesn't matter, you all will continue to use the word like it's exclusively applies to the US.

China rejected a 22 ton shipment of Argentine beef back in March due to chloramphenicol contamination.

USDA recalls 30,000 pounds of Argentine beef sold in Texas and Florida

It was not immediately clear which retailers sold the beef.
