Twins and recruiting

Hey I'm new to army.ca, although I have viewed many topics I have yet to find an answer to these questions.

My first question goes hand in hand with my second question: Can you join up with a buddy or brother (to complete BMQ/SQ together and possibly be assigned to the same post too)?

Second question: This "buddy" of mine also happens to be my identical twin brother, I have many questions about how this may affect the first question I wrote. However the biggest one is, will the CF assign us to different locations for BMQ/ SQ/different units etc. because they (CF) might not be able to tell us apart? (We both plan on joining the infantry.)

If you have any answers or think that you can come up with some more possible issues/problems me and my brother may experience due to this, please post a reply

PS. What if one of us becomes a higher rank, will people get confused if they see an officer come around the corner and then he appears to come back seconds later as a lower rank? (I am trying to stimulate further speculation/questions, this is merely an example of one of the many possible issues).

I'm a civy, so take my reply with a truckload of salt ....

From what I've read here, it would be surprising if yours recruitment process finish at the same time,
even if it's your identical twin. You had differents live, you may have different medical profil, and a zillion
of others factors. Thus the chance that you end up in the same BMQ seem remote to me.

The army will assign you where you are needed, not where you want to be post. People knowing
about infantry location should be able to tell you more about the possibility of a same base post.
BUT as spouse/parents aren't always able to be post on the same side of the continent as others spouse/children,
don't cont on the fact that you are wishing to be near your twin as something augmenting your chance of that...

Finally a new question IRT recruiting.....never thought that I'd see the day.        ;D

It is entirely possible that the following may happen:

- You and your twin are recruited at the same time
- You both go through St Jean on different courses
- You are posted to Edmonton and he's posted to Gagetown.

Anything is possible. Talk to your recruiter and pick their brains on this one.

I'm sure that someone will be by soon to give you a more realistic answer than mine.

My question to you is: Is it important to you that you both stay together throughout your career?

What if the CF do as you suggest and you both make it to Afghanistan, in the same unit...deployed outside the wire, your brother gets killed. How would you cope?

My 0.02 donkey dollars worth...

We would most likely be applying for the same or very similar trades in the infantry, most likely in PPCLI. I think that it wouldn't be too hard to be at least assigned to the same base (correct me if I am wrong). As for Afganistan, well it's the army and that is a risk everyone in it must take. My main issue would be whether or not being identical would make it EVEN harder to get assigned to similar postings and if so what problems might there be. Being identical has many problems that may affect this, an example is: in school sometimes we would be switched out of classes so that the teachers wouldn't have to worry about getting us mixed up. (And no we do NOT play pranks on people, and CERTAILY NOT in a professional situation).

While I can't say whether it would have an impact on postings, it's pretty certain that if something unfortunate happens on deployment to one of you, the other could very likely be held back from going over.

We have twins in my old Regiment, actually they are triplets, but the one brother did not join, originally was Inf and the other was Armoured, they are now both Armoured, same regiment, and soon one will be a higher rank (one has PLQ one does not) They were both supposed to be in Afghan at the same time, but for some reason (I don't know, so I won't speculate) one was taken off, he is going with a roto once his brother is back. Even though they are identical, I can still tell them apart. My wife is also a Twin and her and her sister were both in the reserves and people always mixed them up! The rank thing, do not worry about it, you have prob already put more thought into it than most of the soldiers ever would! Also if one was an officer and one wasn't, the NCM would be at a regiment first, depending on program maybe even years before the other! when you sign up together, it is always something to ask the recruiter, they might help, they might not, it all depends on the facts and figures that day! Hope this helps, and good luck!
